A flagbearer aspirant of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, is accusing the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) of borrowing at an alarming rate.
According to him, in the run-up to the 2016 general elections, the current ruling party, then in opposition, complained a lot about the rate at which the government at the time was borrowing but at the last count, “they have borrowed about 10 billion dollars”.
Speaking on GhanaWeb’s ‘21 minutes with KKB’, the former Trade and Industry Minister under erstwhile John Mahama administration stated that when he becomes the President of Ghana, he will have much tighter public sector appointment process, where the growth of the public sector will reflect the growth of the economy.
He noted that as a government “you have to inject capital into the private sector to grow.”
Mr Spio-Garbrah stated further that “there is a lot of assets in the country….If you go to the airport residential area and cantonment most of the houses there have been paid for….they have been paid for twenty-thirty years ago. Most Ghanaians build their houses without mortgages so a lot of capital is locked up in people’s homes.”
That capital, according to the former minister, “can be liberated through all kinds of mechanisms for productive activity.”

SO THE NPP'S ARE STILL BORROWING. ***barred word*** BORROMIA AND AKUFOOOOL ADDO ***barred word*** OLD MAN.
Such f000*00ls are what ndc have. In fact ndc need kritical thinkers but f000**00ls don't have patience for circumstances. When NPP lost the election petition, they went back to do their home work well, they didn't come on radio talking nons*nse but rather organized in a strategic way to make their party attractive. I remember some Ghanaians in the diaspora volunteered to set up radio stations to let Diasporians voices also be heard in Ghana and else where in the world about what was going on in our country, then, some guys back home volunteered to be vigilante groups since ndc were using their guys to intimidate the NPP leaders and Ghanaians, especially during election time. People just volunteered to form those groups for the NPP, nobody called them like ndc have called some people to form the azorka boys and those hungry hawks. My question to the ndc is are these the only people in their party who are fit to lead them? then they are toast ! None of their candidates is attractive to the majority of the people to vote for them. Leadership is not height and looks,if leadership qualifications are height and looks then Goliath would have no trouble defeating David, but David defeated Goliath with wisdom and knowledge, something ndc lack, so will be behind and defeated always ,Ghanaians are discerning and nothing will convince the majority who brought this government to power. The government is on course and people like failed Spio Gabrah can't bring them down. Which part of the Central region is Spio Gabrah's constituency? We know of Prof. Mills, Prof. Kwesi Botchway but not Spio Gabrah, I've never heard him speaking Fanti so who is this man? Is he a Liberian, Sierra Leonean or a Ghanaian from where? We need to Know!
Borrowed about, he doen't even know how much has been borrowed. He only knows how to talk, but no substance.
All you can say is these people are not serious without disputing the fact that your government is on borrowing spree. Get serious and argue well.
I don't think these people are serious opposition. Well don't blame them for they don't have the men like Spio name will not come out
NPP and borrowing are Brothers. They have borrowed and yet we don't see the Factories and Roads and Hospitals and Airports and Schools and Dams and Farms. Nothing to show for. CORRUPTION EVERYWHERE. Nothing is working. This is what President MAHAMA calls SUPER-INCOMPETENCE. lack of vision. Corrupt officials. We will kick NPP out in 2020.
