Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah has described the boycott of minority Members of Parliament (MP) over the Ghana Card registration as 'baseless'.
According to him, the argument for their boycott is not relevant enough to warrant the attention of Ghanaians.
Speaking on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ programme, Wednesday, the Member of Parliament [MP] for Tema West constituency said that the “difference between a Ghanaian and a ‘voter’ is the main aim of this government, but the minority in government is strongly against it due to reasons best known to them alone”.
In further explanation, Carlos Ahenkorah noted that the government has taken this project very serious because it has become very difficult to distinguish between who a Ghanaian is and who qualifies to vote in this country, just because the ‘voters’ ID card serves these two purposes.
To him not all voters in this country are citizens.
He says the minority Members of Parliament are just making baseless arguments and shouldn’t be paid attention to since they have a motive which will draw the nation backwards.
The Minority in Parliament has threatened to stage a demonstration to protest the National Identification Authority’s quest to accept only passports and birth certificates as identification forms for the registration and instant issuance of the Ghana Card.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Minority has said over 70 percent of Ghanaians could be denied the Ghana Card if nothing is done.
The issuance of Ghana Card was among the government’s key promises to formalize the country’s economy.

WHY SHOULD WE GIVE ATTENTION TO ANYBODY TO VOTE IF THEY CANNOT SATISFY THE PROCESS TO ACQUIRE A PASSPORT OR A BIRTH CERTIFICATE FOR THEMSELVES. WHY DO WE MAKE THE PROCESS TO VOTE SO CHEAP IF THE POTENTIAL VOTER CANNOT VALIDATE HIS OR HER CITIZENSHIP OR CONTRIBUTE TO THE WELFARE AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE NATION? THE MINORITY ARE JUST PORTRAYING THAT THEY ARE USELESSSSS AND DO NOT WANT THE NATION TO GET ON WITH OTHER NATIONS TO GROW BUT TO BE LEFT BEHIND AS A PRIMITIVE SOCIETY. IF MINORITY CANNOT HELP THEIR SUPPORTERS TO GROW THEY HAVE NO BUSINESS TO BE KEPT AT PARLIAMENT.
Let us be reasonable in ghana. How many ghanaians in ghana have passports and birth certs especially those in the rural areas.? They should start educating people to get birth cert and passport as first priority.
If they think they can succeed in this infantile protest, they better buy some kenkey and fish and eat. My advice to them is to do proper campaign to convince the electorate to vote for them. Their savior Charlotte Osei is struggling to keep her job.
