President of Policy think tank, IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe is incensed by the introduction of the double track system, which government seeks to implement at the senior high school level in September saying the Akufo-Addo-led administration is merely toying with the future of students at the second-cycle institutions.
“For me, I won’t take my child to any senior high school now, this is not any policy to be excited about, I think we are not being serious with our education in this country and that is not how to go about things” he said in an interview with Accra-based Neat FM.
According to him, implementation of the double track system will eventually destroy the fabric of education system in the country.
Meanwhile the government has argued that the new system is expected to reduce class sizes and increase contact hours. Again, it will address the growing number of students benefiting from the Free SHS policy due to infrastructure deficit.
But Mr. Franklin believes that the double track system will actually do more harm than good to the future of Ghanaian children and has vowed not to make his child be part of it.
“Even the 9 months in a year the students spend in the schools is not enough, look at how 61% failed maths and English, you are now coming to reduce the contact hours to 8 months in three years, what are you doing, you want us to congratulate you for introducing multi track system, you are messing up children`s future” he said.
Double Track System will be similar to the semester mode of learning applicable in the universities at the SHS level. With this system, each track will be in school for specific days for each semester and go on vacation and come back for the second semester.
While the first track is in school, the second track will be on vacation and vice versa. The objectives of the Double-track School Calendar are to create room to accommodate the increase in enrollment, reduce class sizes, increase contact hours and to increase the number of holidays.
The Double-track calendar is an intervention that allows schools to accommodate more students within the same facility and is often motivated by its potential to improve overcrowding as well as to save costs relative to new school construction in the short term. It is very popular in Australia, Costa Rica, Japan, some schools in the US and Kenya.

Irrelevant people always want to make noise to be heard. Mr. Imani what government policy has ever worked well for you before. Mind you you are not making any impact at all. Check yourself out.
IMANI and Frankling Cudjoe are out of touch (irrelevant). he was on good evening Ghana saying that he doesn't need the respect of any government but he already have the respect of the international community. this is arrogance and pride. he can turn Imani to a political party and run as president. very disrespectful and haughty. mr know it all, you are now irrelevant and irritating. you can scream loud nobody will hear you. we are tired and fed-up with your paroxysm.
Here are my suggestions 1. Provide uniform scholarship to all qualified SHS graduates 2. Parents who prefer to top-up the scholarship to take their children/wards to any preferred private school should be allowed to do. 3. Stop/Minimise the political businesses inherent in the programme.(logistics and food supplies) This would lessen the pressure on you including finance. Please NPP, you have uncountable number of advisors on the subject beyond the few in the ministries, GES, academia and education councils. Listen to others too. Thanks
NPP guys are very funny. Very soon you will see your S.T.U.D.I.T.Y. In the multitude of counselors there is safety. Instead of acknowledging the fact, you keep pretending everything is perfect. keep it up. when it blows you will see your ..............
He has said many things but NPP have become ADAMANT to all views and want to get into ditch before they develop listening years. There are additional 181000 students and there are 128000 private SHS spaces but NPP who did not engage the The Private SHS in the first year of implementing are not listening again in the second to sound wisdom. You say you are engaging 8000 additional teachers that is good.
