Member of Parliament for Gomoa West Constituency, Alexander Abban has asked Ghaanaians to desist from criticizing wife of former Vice President, Matilda Amissah-Arthur for her tribute which some have suggested, was targeted at some persons who had gathered to pay final respects to her late husband.
Matilda Amissah-Arthur, in her tribute said she had been amazed by the number of people who had shown her love, following the passing of her husband, but not for the right reasons.
“I asked myself, is this Ghana? Are all these people in Ghana because the maligning, the lies, the treachery, the wickedness, the deliberately changing things so that you could look better than others.”
Mr. Abban on Citi TV/ FM’s News Analysis Programme, The Big Issue indicated Mrs. Amissah Arthur’s comments were not far from reality.
He believes her tribute emphasizes the need for an introspection on human relations.
“His wife had to speak her mind and that has been the Ghanaian culture within the political space. We should look at the strengths we can bring to bear when we are doing this kind of politics and in fact it is not only inter-party, but also intra-party.
“I have heard people trying to condemn her but I do not think so. We should do some form of introspection and see what kind of things we do to each other when the person has life and what we say when the person has given up the ghost.”
Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga expressed similar sentiments, saying “I can understand the widow and the way she spoke yesterday. I do not think anybody should condemn her, that will be very sad to do.”

After all she's right.....that's what Ghanaians are....Ghanaians are the most hypocrite and sycophants i've ever seen.....unrepentant bunch of human beings......all those insulting her i guess are the same people who used to insult her husbands......shame on all of you
She was completly out of order, mind you the history of what her Husband benefited considering innocent blood that their Party distroyed, she should have known better. What hypocracy can equate their evil deeds their (byground) has done to this Nation?I personaly share her pain and grief but she was wrong by all standards. It was needless due what their history of the political devide.Im also of the view that, they may be a good people who joined a wrong political party.
if you wont vent your anger and she will, why do we condemn her. the truth is only one
Madam, we will criticize you now but when you die ,we will praise you.955220
When his husband was venturing in politics and she was gladly enjoying the largess of a second lady with motorcade and all the benefits associated with the office she did not complain. She had every opportunity to advise his husband but she kept quiet. Why is she complaining now. How many people will get the opportunity of getting a STATE BURIAL without she spending a pesewa. By the way does she remember she also insulted a Headmistress of a School in the Eastern Region. She should not ***barred word*** but thank God for her present position. The political terrain in Ghana is not a bed of roses even I do not subscribe to insults.
I do not agree with you at all. Who said dabbling in politics is a bed of roses? Politics is NOT for the faint hearted. I do not think the husband would be happy with that bit. He knew what politics entailed. Then I wonder what Mrs. Akufo-Addo will say, should she outlive the husband....the most vilified politician in Ghana’s history. The late President Mills was also vilified, but what did the wife say?
