President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been given two options; either to step down or apologize to Ghanaians for his involvement in the new Ameri Deal.
According to the General Secretary of the People's National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed, the President cannot say he was forced to give an executive order to the deal and that once he gave his approval, he was aware of the content; adding Mr Agyarko should not be the only person to bear the brunt.
Mr Boakye Agyarko was on Monday, 6th August, 2018 relieved of his position as the Energy Minister.
Even though reason for his dismissal was not mentioned in the statement from the presidency; there were claims that it was due to the new AMERI deal.
Subsequently, Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, confirmed that Mr. Agyarko’s dismissal was due to his handling of the AMERI amendment deal.
The dismissal according to him has “to do with the issue of the controversial AMERI deal. The President believes that in the interest of the Ghanaian people, in the interest of the country and in the interest of his administration, the Minister for Energy, Hon. Boakye Agyarko should be relieved of his position”
However, Atik Mohammed, contributing to a panel discussion on Peace FM's morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Thursday, said using Ameri as the basis for the Energy Minister’s dismissal is "weak" and ‘most unfortunate’.
“If the basis for (Agyarko's) dismissal is the Ameri deal then it is weak. In that case, then the President himself should have also stepped down. Because when the documents were brought to him he signed with an executive order. He is responsible for the content and so you cannot sacrifice only one man for the content you accepted and signed… sacking only the energy minister is most unfortunate.. I find his decision most unfortunate and harsh. If the Ameri deal led to Agyarko’s dismissal, then Mr President, the least you can do if you will not resign, is to apologize to Ghanaians,” he stated.

Oh @Bash you have said it all. I remember Atik lambasted former president Mahama recently and these same people hero worshippped him. Today vitriol and vernom is directed towards him. Folks we should have principles and morals. We lack it abundantly that is why our kingsmen are treading on the desert begging to be enslaved in Lybia and others suffering in Dubai with classes being shoved into our princesses private parts with the men subjected to torcher by electrocution of their private parts and so on. Go Egypt and see how our princesses are gang raped and if it is not the mercy of some European countries and the US, this will go on till they die and they are buried like dogs. I know this as a first hand fact due to a few things. I am brutal about this because i want to give people of no principle and condemn people who speak against wrong doing that blood is on their hand. This is because it is these people who create the platform for the looters of the country to have shelter. Why are we so partisan to the extent that we see clear wrong doing but support it? Partisanship is killing us. Pastors, Imams, academicians business people, doctors are all at it. When are we going to change? If someone is NPP, whatever NPP does is good. When NDC goes wrong, NDC supporters will find nothing wrong with it. When despondnecy reaches a threshold and people rebel, the blame will squarely be on people who have no principles not on their political masters. Blood will be on your hands. I will say again on a working visit to Ghana, I saw how ordinary people were hungry and on the other hand, the affluent were enjoying their luxury. People like Ace Ankomah should have principles small.
I tried to find out which political party Atik belongs to and was informed by friends there is a party called PNC. Goggled it but could not find it. Attempted to locate their party head office of which he is a General Secretary and could not find it. Infact wonders will never end.
hahaha...just imagining it was Mahama who said he was ''mis-led'' into signing a deal. Pastors will preach, ex-moderators will be mad, ex-rectors will reel...oh Ghana!
AKUFFO ADDO SHLD RESIGN,WAS HE BLIND WHEN HE WAS SIGNING THE AMERI DEAL,
by the way, who is Atik…. ***barred word*** talk
Ah! Ah! Ah. Am lost for words.Examine yourself and tread cautiously.
If it's about NPP anybody who talks must be insulted. All this while when Atik has been talking for the NPP you never asked him what he took before talking or never insulted him. Now that he is making a legitimate comment you people have a problem. NPP everybody will know you. You lied your way into power and still lying. Its a pity
Mr Mohammed, if I may ask, how many bottles of "akpeteshie" do you drink a day?
Sad we have all these given the opportunity to comment on political issue. They just talk by heart. You should be somewhere in the north with sheep's in the field.
