Murtala Mohammed Ibrahim, a former NDC MP for Nanton Constituency has accused President Akufo-Addo and the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta of orchestrating the collapse of five (5) indigenous banks to pave way for an international financial institution to operate in the country.
According to him, the collapse of the 5 banks is a ploy to bring in a highly prestigious and a leading global financial services firm and one of the largest banking institutions in the United States.
The banking sector has been faced with the collapse of some indigenous banks in the country.
The resultant bank is called Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited.
The Bank of Ghana, a couple of weeks ago, declared five banks —Unibank, Sovereign Bank, The Construction Bank, BEIGE Bank and The Royal Bank— insolvent and revoked their licences then merged them into what it has been christened the Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited.
The news comes barely a year after it revoked the licences of the UT and other banks which were also indigenously owned.
The BoG said some of those banks were significantly undercapitalised and beyond rehabilitation, while others supposedly obtained their licences under false pretences.
Murtala, a former Deputy Trades and Industry Minister in the erstwhile Mahama-led NDC government, who was speaking on the banking crises in the country during a panel discussion on Radio Gold's Alhaji and Alhaji, Saturday, said the collapse of these numerous banks is just "a ploy by the BoG governor (Dr. Addison), finance minister and the President to bring in an American bank called Morgan JP & Chase (JPMorgan Chase & Co)".

Absolute ***barred word*** to the highest degree. Is Murtala happy with some local banks' abuse of trust Ghanaians reposed in them? Only crooks like Murtala will support what the banks did. How can the banks toy with people's hearts? If a foreign bank is serious to do business, what is wrong?
seriously i blame the mediocre media hosts. u can't have just wayside commentators on serious radio stations hosted by serious minded people, who actually do research before they start their programs. any serious radio host will ask for full evidence all ask you to retract. Kwame Sefa Kai will never accept such wayward comments on his show. you can have such comments only on rented radio platforms hosted by mediocre minds. God save Ghana. and indeed he was once a deputy minister.
Murtala Mohammed has also become a parliamentarian for Ghana. These are the people who will tell you that 'up is down and down is up'. Jehovah save Ghana.
M. M Ibrahim your accusations amount to rubbish!! If you benefitted from these crimes against the ppl of Ghana, then quickly join forces with Otabil et al to return your loot! By your deeds and utterances ye shall be known and if you think Ghanaians are ***barred word*** then think again!!
WOA HWE !!!!!; NDC again eposing their ignorance i the bankig sector ; if an American bank with its massive resources and is comming to Ghana to replace our shady galamasey banks what the problem; the problem with NDC is that they do not have the intelligent and qualified people but once a while they throw in one of their non intelligent jaguar jokers to come and display their confusion to Ghanaians besides why should I as the poor tax payer go give mine money to a local Bank who then diverts mine cash under the guise of investment and hires a pastor to be a krooked director to lead the bank and share the cash for their personal use and then the Government and BOG turns round to me the same tax payer to bail these KROOKED Bank out ; IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE ; we need more us banks with credibility to come do business in Ghana.
ANY TIME THIS GUY OPENS HIS MOUTH, WHAT COMES OUT IT GABBAGE. THE LAST TIME HE OPENED HIS MOUTH IT WAS THE NEW EC BOSS BEING A NIECE OF THE FIRST LADY WITH ANY SHRED OF EVIDENCE. JP MORGAN CHASE COMING TO GHANA IS NO NEWS. THEIR COMING TO GHANA HAS BEEN ON THE DRAWING BOARD FOR OVER 5 YEARS, EXCEPT THAT THEY WERE WAITING FOR THE RIGHT ECONOMIC ENVIRONMENT WHICH MURTALA AND HIS JDM IRRESPONSIBLE GOVERNMENT FAILED TO CREAT. JP MORGAN CHASE COMING TO GHANA IS THE BIGGEST CONFIDENT BOOSTER TO OUR ECONOMY IN THE LAST THREE DECADES.MURTALA IS A JOKE!
We do not need any prestigious foreign bank coming into Ghana. The most prestigious bank we have in Ghana today is GN BANK. The NPP administration can only appreciate the GN Bank and encourage Ghanaians to do business with this bank that has branches in Liberia; Togo; Cote de Voire; USA and over 300 branches in Ghana. What else are we looking for as Ghanaians?.
Its a global world and the earlier you understand that the better. Why should we allow Nigerian,Haitian and South African Banks and not USA banks? Do you know of Ghana International Bank is in UK? Do you know Zoomlion is in Angola and Liberia? Do you know Regimanuel is in Senegal or so? We need more of this so that there is balance of trade. Learn from what others are doing and move fast. Jesus asked, who is your neighbor? Refer to the good Samaritan illustration. Till date i don't understand why GCB which is almost peeking in Ghana will not go to other west African countries or the global market? We have doctors and nurses sitting at home. We have entrance exams for our lawyers at Makola so that few will graduate at the end of the year when ACCA is gone global and have been using the distance learning as long as i can remember. instead of criticism, learn from it and begin to move offshore to give opportunities to your nationalities. Think Big.
when morons as such leads us in Ghana,we are doomed, for Christ seek this man was appointed a minister oh i weep for Ghana.
ndc should know that they are in opposition bcos they did NOT do anything good to save all these Banks rather collaborated with them to create loot and share so they should all sshhuutt up! and see the best governance of the Nehemiah Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo. NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU
