Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs says his party will forever remain in opposition if they do not rebrand themselves to match the rising Dombo (NPP) tradition.
He sought to advise the executives at the party's headquarters to watch the activities of the ruling NPP otherwise "we will laugh at the bad side of our teeth (wrong side of your mouth)."
" . . Do we have a tradition? Now the UP/Dombo are building the three towers . . . I'm talking about Eastern Region, I'm talking about Ashanti Region, I'm talking about Brong Ahafo Region, and we are sitting down quietly looking at them, it's a plain revival of the UP (United Party) tradition," he said.
According to him, the current executives at the party’s headquarters played a major role in their embarrassing defeat to the NPP in the 2016 election, especially in the Central Region.
" . . If we talk some people sit at the headquarters and try to dictate to the region, I sat down quietly . . . it got to a time I organized a campaign launch and I was not even allowed to talk, even welcome address I was not allowed to give . . . I've kept quiet, I've kept my cool . . . they rather dealt directly with all our conesting candidates and not with the party, and you expect the party to win? Kwami this should be a lesson to them," he said on 'kokrokoo'.
Speaking on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’ programme, Allotey Jacobs also known as the ‘Educated fisherman’ noted that, the ‘Umbrella’ fraternity needs 'vibrant' and 'radical' leaders at the party’s headquarters to ensure they win the next elections.
“We need some strong vibrant . . . Boys like Sammy Gyamfi, those guys we need at the party headquarters,” he suggested.
"I say they should watch out, Dombo is rising . . . when we talk they say we are flirting with the NPP . . " he angrily added.
Allotey Jacobs also condemned his party’s decision to establish its ideological school known as the Ghana Institute of Social Democracy.
He alleged that the party is ‘forcing’ individuals to pay an amount to be educated on the party’s ideologies – something which was meant to be free.
“I have been seeing some messages on NDC platforms instructing people to pay GHc 150.00 to learn socialism . . . we need to reorganise ourselve, we need to rebrand ourselves, and I say they should watch out, Dombo (NPP tradition) is rising, they should watch out,” he said.

Politicians oh politicians. Dombo tradition, Rawlings tradition, Nkrumah tradition, Busia tradition is not the reason why you fail. In particular in Ghana. These things are just talking points which make some people important and others to get a job. The people out there need less corrupt politicians thats all. These are bread and butter issues for them. Yes there are a few who focus on tribal voting but it is waining so much. The NDC lost not because of any tradition but it was because of the Corruption perception or not. People did not really like Akuffo Addo and NPP strategically branded him as incorruptible. That is how and why the NPP won the election. PERIOD!!!!!. This is bread and butter issue for the ordinary person. NDC can win if they strengthen their base and make disbursement of finance to the grassroot efficiently and effectively. Remember the money which was supposed to go to the grassroots for campaign vanished just after it left the headquaters showing they did not understand the supreme court ruling. GET TO THE GRASSROOTS. NPP did that very well including soliciting the help of hudlums who we see today. It helped the NPP to marshal the supporter they already had and led others to follow them. At the national level, whoever is the flagbearer should neutralise any perception of corruption. AS we all know that it will be Mahama, he should first of all select a no ***barred word*** vice. Someone who the masses will believe will be able to step in if Mahama is not strong on his staff. Mahama needs to make bold promises on some national issues like taxation, education, procurement and health. This is because the NPP is faltering big time on these issues. He should be ready to make an apology even if indirectly on corruption and pledge that he has learnt from mistakes he made the first time. Even as a flag bearer, he sdhould punish anyone who misbehaves in public including unfortunate utterences. These are simple things the party can do to go near power rathere than the Dombo thing. People want to here about how their children can be educated, how they can put food on the table, electricity, transport fares, manufacturing and so on which can be achieved by reducing corruption not political ideologies.
NDC as a political party has no Tradition and philosophy.Their much touted or acclaimed Social Democrats is a borrowed one. Propaganda, lies, and populism have become a hallmark of the NDC. I can't remember the last time the NDC as a political party contributed idealogically and constructively to a national issue or discourse, except always struggling desperately on polemics and populism as if propaganda is the main opposition party policy. I listened to Mr. Goosie Tanoh and I said wow is this gentleman really, a member of the NDC? In the light of his intellect, credibility and resolve to impart a positive change, I doubt, he fits in with the membership of the NDC.
This is not true!!! If only Allotey Jacob can be truthful to himself for one minute he will realized that no political party in this country has tradition than the NDC. On what principles and ideologies and traditions was the party formed? Did I not hear them say Probity, Accountability and Social Justice? The problem with NDC is that they have decided to take in other gods...in fact strange gods which they are not good at keeping.
Fold up Ndc Alotey advice your people and resurrect Cpp that Ndc collapsed which has a tradition. Cpp couldn't stay on their land and Exodused into Ndc like famine pushed Father Abraham to the land of the Philistine. Alotey be a crusader to encourage faithfully Cpp folks that immigrated into Ndc ( a land without tradition) to go back to their homeland and uphold their Cpp tradition. A word to the wise is enough
