General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has vowed to unleash their own set of vigilante groups on the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) should any of the former's party members come under attack.

General Mosquito, as he is popularly called, warned the opposition party will be forced to act lawlessly by dragging out of office, any appointee by the President if the party is so not satisfied with the said appointee's performance.

Mr Asiedu Nketiah has come under severe criticisms following his endorsement of the fresh emergence of vigilante groups within the NDC.

He explained that, the emergence of groups like Hawks, Dragons and Lions are “an appropriate natural response” to the failure of the Akufo-Addo government to rein in its party vigilante groups.

Speaking on Okay fm’s "Ade Akye Abia" programme, he said since the NPP’s electoral victory, the ruling party has failed to bring its vigilante groups who had virtually over-powered the state security and rendered them ineffective to order.

"The Nana Addo government has shown that they are not in charge, so our vigilante group has come to stay and they will equally deal with the NPP’s vigilante group...We have has given endorsement to the formation of para-military groups such as "The Hawks," "The Lions" and "The Dragons", he stated.

The NDC scribe further alleged that some NPP vigilante groups unlawfully seized two NDC party vehicles under bizarre circumstances, adding that the said vehicles are still in the custody of the Jubilee House security, even after submission of all the relevant documents to the transport officer there.

"Despite, my clarion call to this government condemning the activities of its own group, they all fell on deaf ears because this government was excited and endorsed their activities. We are going to protect our selves and will deal ruthelessly with any group that will decide to misbhave. As am talking to you now, we have two of our Mahindra pick ups locked up at the presidency all in the name of these vigilante groups and lawlessness....These boys are here to protect us since the president has decided to endorse the lawlessness perpetrated by his own people," he added.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said it will recruit about 200,000 boys into its newly formed vigilante groups.

According to the party's Greater Accra-regional organiser Anthony Nukpenu, the recruitment will be done country-wide.
