The former Deputy National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Dominic Kwasi Eduah, has appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu to retrain his officers in effective crowd management.

Reacting to the Adenta riot on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", he urged the IGP to take Police officers through thorough crowd & riot control tactics to avoid situations which many people term as unprofessional  and extreme treatment meted  out to victims resulting in several injuries.

Ghana Police, till when will you act professionally? I believe mob controlling should be the basis of your training,” he said.

According to Mr. Eduah, the Police action toward the Adenta protesters which saw them firing tear gas into their midst was not the best way to disperse the crowd.

I am using this medium to plead with the IGP to do something about it. I believe the earlier he takes it serious, the better...Protesters are always angry and instead of you to protect them, you rather go there to worsen the situation. If you think safety is expensive, try accident...We don’t have to joke with safety and ordinary safety prevention measures at all," he said.

The Adentan Highway was thrown into chaos yesterday when some angry youth in the area blocked the highway and burned car tyres in protest against the high rate of accidents on the road.

The protest followed the death of a 22-year-old student of the West Africa Senior High School (WASS), who was returning from WASS after registering for the Gold Track stream of the double-track system, and was knocked down on the highway.
