The former Deputy National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Dominic Kwasi Eduah, has appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu to retrain his officers in effective crowd management.
Reacting to the Adenta riot on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", he urged the IGP to take Police officers through thorough crowd & riot control tactics to avoid situations which many people term as unprofessional and extreme treatment meted out to victims resulting in several injuries.
“Ghana Police, till when will you act professionally? I believe mob controlling should be the basis of your training,” he said.
According to Mr. Eduah, the Police action toward the Adenta protesters which saw them firing tear gas into their midst was not the best way to disperse the crowd.
“I am using this medium to plead with the IGP to do something about it. I believe the earlier he takes it serious, the better...Protesters are always angry and instead of you to protect them, you rather go there to worsen the situation. If you think safety is expensive, try accident...We don’t have to joke with safety and ordinary safety prevention measures at all," he said.
The Adentan Highway was thrown into chaos yesterday when some angry youth in the area blocked the highway and burned car tyres in protest against the high rate of accidents on the road.
The protest followed the death of a 22-year-old student of the West Africa Senior High School (WASS), who was returning from WASS after registering for the Gold Track stream of the double-track system, and was knocked down on the highway.

A citizen demanding professionalism from the police is doing the right thing of not being a spectator. Due to the long and "bugabuga" policing of the (P)NDC era, Ghanaians have become used rough treatment by the forces. Most people do not know what to expect from the police. We must also note that our policemen and women also lack equipment to give out their best. Thus, calling for professionalism embraces all facets that will make them all round performers. Our leaders should use such temper-cooling words to calm situations in order not to insult the angry crowd to worsen their plight. More of those Dominic.
Because of votes you are saying this. If the police start toning down, the next time you and your nana addo would be a thing of the past because the youth can rush to the Flagstaff house and remove atopa president.
Dominic Eduah,i think u must also be schooled on the use of force and graduated use of force and how proportional a force is to resistance.People like you always see whatever the Police does as unprofessional. Were you expecting the Police to use their bodies as buffers to deal with the rioters.Such comments from People like you and some media men are making Policing difficult and creating unnecessary resistance from civilians when law enforcement activities are in execution
