CONTROVERSIAL LEGAL Practitioner and Social Commentator, Maurice Ampaw, says the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is slowly losing political power.
According to him, economic hardship in the country is rising to unimaginable levels and said he was afraid the electorate might reject the NPP during the 2020 polls.
He said he was surprised about the fact that President Nana Akufo-Addo seemed unconcerned even as his administration continued to fumble on a daily basis.
“Nana Akufo-Addo is losing political power, so can’t he see?” the popular lawyer asked Kofi Asante of Nhyira FM on Tuesday.
He said even though it was not his wish for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to return to power in 2020, the NPP might hand power over to the NDC in 2020.
“I see the NPP losing political power in 2020. I don’t want the NDC back to power but the NPP may hand over power to them on a silver platter.
“The hardship may force Ghanaians, especially the NPP supporters, not to visit the polling centers to vote and this may favour the NDC to return to power”.
According to Ampaw, aside the hardship, President Akufo-Addo also seemed to be losing the battle against.
“I am surprised and shocked about Nana Akufo-Addo’s approach about corruption. He is clearly presiding over corruption and I am shocked”.
Maurice Ampaw said Ghanaians had much hope in President Akufo-Addo to stop corruption “but I am not impressed about his output so far”.

For the first time, this loud mouth has made some sense. He must be congratulated for this.
Maurice, your analysis of economic hardships in Ghana is right. However, your conclusion of its source and possible effect on the 2020 election is unscientific. The Government is yet to complete half of its mandate. It has used this period to stabilise the economy, which no government has been able to do in the 3rd world under IMF. This is a big plus which you have downplayed. Secondly, the major debts that were suffocating the economy have duly tamed. Loans for the aluminium project and the GET fund will improve liquidity in the short term from 2019 through 2020, which will take care of the hardships you are referring to. The full effect of the planting for food programme will be felt in 2020, while the of 1V1D, 1D1F and improved revenue collection will come in 2020 to 2022 as a medium term impact, just to mention a few. IT looks you have a low tolerance to ambiguity hence your panicky conclusion. The plans of the government are on course. All we need are prayers, focus, resolve and endurance as a people. We shall prevail as a people. The battle is still the Lord's.
Lawyer say it as it is & those who have ears must listen. The sycophants will tell the king that all is well, you are popular, the people like you, you will win again. Free shs, nabcorp program will do the campaign for you. Once the people are hungry? Ask JM.
Nana will bounce back.IMF will be history by April 2019 Meanwhile the economy is stable.Economic hardships will ease. As for corruption it is difficult to say when it is all about perception. All the noise being made on corruption is about contracts signed for the system to work well.Or Ghanaians want to tell the Government should not enter into any contract.ln that case,l ask why do we vote in a government? Maurice should focus on how to help this government to implement it's policies rather than living in fear.
If only the NDC would bring any other person instead of Mahama, I will vote for NDC for the first time in my life.
Come what may NPP will lose power in 20202 because of lies.
The IMF taxes will send NPP into opposition. Next time write it in your manifesto that you are going to obey IMF and go through whatever they want you to do. No country on Earth has followed the IMF and become successful.
