From all indications, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will rely on its vigilante groups in order to win the 2020 elections.

A stalwart of the NDC in the Ashanti Region, Joseph Yammin, who is also former secretary of the party, said that “the known NDC vigilante groups in the Ashanti Region, who are duly recognized by the party leadership and our members, are as follows: Taskforce One, Taskforce Two, Taskforce Three, Motor Riders and our newest vigilante group in the Ashanti Region is the Hawks.”

Yammin told Oheneba of Fox Fm in Kumasi that the Ashanti Regional NDC has numerous vigilante groups.

He called on Ghanaians to take note of all the aforementioned vigilante groups of the NDC.

According to him, all the groups came out in their numbers to provide security for ex-President Mahama during his recent campaign tour.

Yammin, a former Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, said “Members of the NDC’s vigilante groups were dressed in different attires during Mr. Mahama’s tour.”

Vigilantism in Ghana’s politics has become topical issue in the country, especially on radio in recent times.

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition NDC have been widely criticized for forming the vigilante groups.

Owing to the violation of the country’s laws by the vigilante groups, some political connoisseurs have called for a ban on vigilant groups.

The political pundits have argued that the vigilante groups pose a threat to security of the country so the parties should ignore them and rely on the police.

But if Yammin’s recent statements are anything to go by, then the NDC is not ready to disband its numerous vigilante groups ahead of the 2020 elections.
