Any attempt by former President Mahama to contest the 2020 general elections would be met with an injunction, an astute lawyer has warned.
Lawyer Maurice Kwabena Ampaw has joined the league of persons who believe it is about time to undertake a legal exercise at the court to decide whether the 1992 Constituion grants former President Mahama the opportunity to run for office again after exhausting his tenure.
According to Lawyer Mauricre Ampaw, he is prepared to “legally frasturate him (Mahama) and fight him politically to stop him from coming back”.
The move, he explained, would benefit the nation.
“It wouldn’t help the NDC in any way, and this is the reason I have chosen to speak against his return”, he said.
Speaking to Peacefmonline.com, Lawyer Ampaw repeated that “I will frastrate him legally by taking him to court so that he goes there and give reasons on why he wants to come back. The exercise I have chosen to undertake is a test of the 1992 Constitution and that is why we have the court to decide whether I have a good case or not.”
Amongst the issues to seek clarity in the court, Lawyer Ampaw mentioned that he would be questioning if the 1992 Constitution allows former Presidents, who have finished serving their tenure and collected their ex-gratia in full, the opportunity to come back for double ex-gratia.
“I would be seeking to know if an ex-president who has finished serving his term and collected his ex-gratia can come back for a double ex-gratia...whether it is in the spirit of our Constitution that we should have a situation whereby you are given an opportunity to serve the nation as a President you can come back for another ex-gratia”, he said.
He however maintained that he is patiently waiting on the sidelines for the day the National Democratic Congress would make a move to elect former President Mahama as their flagbearer during their impending primaries.
“After the elections, if he declares his intent to contest the national elections, I (Ampaw) would place an injunction on him”, he stated.
He went on to promise that “ the injunction would happen. I don’t care about the insults because I am above it. I am doing this for the good of the NDC”.
Lawyer Ampaw warned that former President Mahama’s comeback would be dangerous for the nation.

Why is NPP so scared of Mahama? Is because they lied to Ghanaians with promises they can never fulfill ,and they know their days are numbered. Jealousy, enviousness, and greed is actually showing their ignorance of the law, you fake lawyers) Do you think Mahama with all his wisdom will intend to run if he doesn't made his homework?? Stop being a ***barred word*** and stop wasting your energy fake lawyer Apaw. Your boss akufo addo will use tax payers money to try to challenge Mr. Mahama and will go to jail if found guilty so advice yourselves.
Yes, the question is can an ex-president who has taken an ex-Gratia come back and contest an election again? Should he win is he entitled to another ex-Gratia. LET THE COURTS DECIDE ON THIS, VERY IMPORTANT. THERE MUST BE AN INTERPRETATION.
I'm sorry but it seems some politicians are so shallow. so all the barking are for show. Fear man
i dont know why this man want to come back so the NDC dont have any better person to contest ? this mahama man is greedy after getting all that you want what else greedy man mahama

I don’t understand why ,after taking full ex gratis you wanna come back to steal more. Look you normally seek for a return to sth when your maybe did enough but your efforts were not completed.in his case,it is not so.Almost everything was in disarray,Does the NDC not have any other person to contest the elections?,Let me make it clear no one is afraid of Mahama’s coming back ooo but he shouldn’t waste the Nations time. Some people are just power drunk. If the Courts day he can contest we will show him his level. If he really loves the Ndc he will just go to sleep somewhere mtheeeerw And please comment here doesn’t mean we are NPP foot soldiers ooo
Mr. Mahama. Have you gone to see the galamsey mined areas and the damage caused? This is pure cognitive deficits.Mr.Mahama can you come clear on the GITMO 2.?Now how do we reclaim the galamsey mined out lands for future generations after us?Ama Ghana can not buy your incompetence again from Doom so to .......Please sit back and offer solutions like the Ex-Presidents.A word to the wise is...God bless.
Another Idioooot. hahahahahah!!!!
Akoto Ampaw should read the following article for a better logic to support his case "Can ex-Presidents run for office in Ghana? A constitutional analysis" by Professor Appiah-Opoku. You can google for it. The 2nd 4-year term isn't an entitlement for a President who's voted out of power.
