Former President John Dramani Mahama has expressed dismay over the decision by the government to include second year Senior High School (SHS) students in the double track system.
Despite the government’s claim that the double track system was not going to affect second and third year students, all second year SHS students are still on vacation, with some due to go back to school in late February and in March.
The unfortunate situation has become a matter of concern for Mr Mahama who says it is not proper to keep the students at home for such a long time, and he is putting the blame squarely on the government for causing the chaotic in secondary education.
Mr Mahama said this when he addressed delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Sefwi-Akontombra on Sunday as part of his five-day flagbearership campaign tour of the Western Region. He says attending SHS is a one's in a life time experience for students and it is therefore dangerous for any government to mismanage secondary education as the NPP government is doing.
Mr Mahama denied that an NDC government would collapse the free SHS system, saying that the next NDC administration will rather strengthen Free SHS by making the appropriate interventions for correcting the mess created by the government.
He has repeatedly pointed out that his next government will eliminate the double track system by investing in additional classroom and dormitory blocks with commensurate teaching and learning materials to enable all students attend school at the same time and ensure adequate contact hours between teachers and students.
Mr Mahama has also promised to complete the remainder of the 200 Community Day Senior High Schools, which were started by his government and has been abandoned by the current administration.

Mahama has a point here. This clueless NPP govt has made a huge mess of the Secondary School system without providing the necessary infrastructure. Worst of all, they wont listen to any sense. Mahama has the proven experience and so we wait for him to come correct this CONFUSION going on.
Ndc is a threat to Ghana democracy and development. How could mahama open his mouth against something which is going to benefit the country in future, Ghanaians gave you the opportunity to proof your competency but you failed miserably, upto the extent of you taken bribe from a contractor. You should be ashamed of yourself.
An Empty Barrel like Mahama is still making NOISE Over Govt’s Decision To Include Second Year SHS Students In The Double Track System. When he was in OFFICE why didn't you this. MAHAMA A BIG IDOT.
He has no shame. Count the number of v8 you distributed chiefs and comedians to the extent of bringing osofua to Ghana. All those monies could have built and expand existing classrooms and dormitries for our kids. The one's you claimed you built could have been built on the campuses of existings schools but because of wickedness and creat loot and shate, you prefer to build to build them in remote places. A typical example are the Kasoa Ofankor and Tema comm 22 ones which you could not complete. Those monies could have been used to expand Tema Secondary school and Wineba Senior High schools to increase the intake. Which of the NDC people asked their wards to choose any of your community day schools you claimed you built.
@LISTEN. Mr. LISTEN, please listen and listen properly. During Mahama's time as president, there was a cut off point/grade for admission into secondary schools. If the cut off grade for a particular year was 36, then all who passed BECE but had aggregates beyond 36 we automatically denied secondary school education...and do you know the numbers?? Note that most of these students denied access to secondary schools due to grades obtained were rural folks and those in poor urban areas who attended "Cyto" schools. If by the double track, free education system, everybody who passed the BECE has the opportunity to access secondary school education, do you consider this a mess?? You may not have lived in the rural area before nor you or your sibling denied education just bcos of a cut - off grade. You would not have seen this double track as a mess but as an opportunity. If you cannot appreciate this great opportunity given to would-be street hawkers who are now enjoying free secondary education, then live in and enjoy your self-created mess.
Eiiii Mahama and his classroom building de333 no no no. Mr. JM, things are not easy ooo but u put ur concerns down. Nana will work on it from 2020 to 2024. He started it and so he will be in a better position to maintain and upgrade free SHS
YOU SCARED PEOPLE KEEP LAMBASTING THE FORMER FOR WHATEVER CONTRIBUTION HE HAS FOR THE COUNTRY.. LOOK AT WHAT THIS CURRENT PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC IS DOING. LET'S SEE HOW POWER IS TAKEN.
