Former Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Allotey Jacobs has called on government to equip the Ghana Police Service with helicopters.
According to him, the Police should be given helicopters to assist them in their hunt for criminals in the country.
Allotey Jacobs, speaking to sit-in host Nana Yaw Kesseh on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme, bemoaned the spate of criminal activities in the country making emphasis on the recent murder of the investigative journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale and the kidnapping in Takoradi in the Western Region.
He noted that the helicopters will help the Police to be swift in identifying the criminals and also swoop down on them.
Citing Ahmed's death as a example, Allotey Jacobs believed if the Police had helicopters; the gunmen who are said to have attacked the journalist and fled on motorbike would have been identified and given a wild chase.
The NDC guru also appealed to government to build helipads across the country to serve as a landing area for the helicopters.
“Time is ripe for the Ghana Police to be given helicopters. Let us build helipads and let us purchase helicopters for them. And it will help in our forward match to make sure the security of this state is sufficient enough for us to say that we’re in paradise,” he suggested.
