Former President, Jerry John Rawlings has described President Akufo-Addo’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) as ‘disarming’.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Thursday delivered the third State of the Nation Address (SoNA) - since he assumed office on January 7, 2017 - before Parliament this morning.
The address is in accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, which states that “The President shall, at the beginning of each session of Parliament and before the dissolution of Parliament, deliver to Parliament a message on the state of the nation.”
President Akufo Addo spoke on several issues in the economy including the canker of vigilante groups which is causing mayhem in the country.
He called on the two major political parties in the country; the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to disband any vigilante group associated with them. Failure to do this, he will institute laws which will deal with vigilante groups.
In a tweet, former President Rawlings hoped the two political parties will “heed to the call to join forces in combating the scourge of party militias and violent vigilantism”

Source of all the indiscipline going on. Yet he finds comfort and friendship in his contemporary promoter. Birds of a feather!
Mr Rawlings, Asiedu Nketia has rubb!shed the call for both parties to disband their vigilante groups, . How I wished the bullet should have hit Asiedu Nketia himself, not to kill him but wound him instead, for him to l3arn s3ns3
Godfather of vigilantism, you caused all this indiscipline mttchrw
WHO CARES WHETHER NPP OR NDC LISTEN. AKUFO ADDO MUST GO AHEAD WITH LI TO BAN VIGILANTISM WITH BACKING OF LAW. THAT IS THE ONLY SURETY NOW AND STOP FOREVER ANY RESUMPTION OF SUCH GROUPS IN THE FUTURE.
Ah, Mr. Rawlings thanks for your input, but if there was any person to talk about this canker, it should not be you! Don't you think that we are seeing all these today because of the 1979 and 1981 EVIL things you supervised for your men to unleash on Ghana because of your interest! During that time a so-called militia can drive an MD from his/her office because of anything and also beat women in public ('eye haaan, eye kanea'). MR. Rawling please do not utter a word on this because you are 1000% the reason!
Thank God you seem to be changing. You are the pacesetter of political hooliganism in the country. Why don't you as a former president call for stakeholder meetings where all former PRESIDENTS will be present, including the all talk no action current president, as well as top security men both military and the police and also security experts to deal with the issue once and for all. Sitting back and expecting the ndc npp to solve this problem alone will never work. Even i who do not have serious security background can sit down and this about this as a major solution. Call for town hall meetings for the citizens to aslo have their say on this, because if Ghana goes down in 2020, you may run away but most of you extended families may be affected.
