The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia has charged President Akufo-Addo to lead the discussion on political vigilantism.
According to him, President Akufo-Addo is just refusing to comply as the solution to disarm vigilantism lies with him.
"The President is the Commander-in-chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, in charge of all state security . . . even though it is very important to dialogue on the issue of vigilantism, we cannot limit it to NPP and NDC," he stated.
Speaking on Okay FM’s "Ade Akye Abia" programme, he maintained there should be "stakeholder meetings involving Civil Society Organisations, the IEA and other political parties, with the President leading the discussion" as well.
"NDC and NPP cannot agree on anything because the vigilantism in this country has taken a new turn," he stressed.
He indicated that the president just wants to appear to be tackling the problem of vigilantism in order to look good in the eyes of Ghanaians, but in actual sense, is doing nothing to end political vigilantism in the country.
"He is just playing with the minds of the good people of Ghana. Every authority has been entrusted unto him to protect us so how can he turn around to ask we the politicians to solve the problem… he knows the solution and we expect him to lead the discussion," he emphasized.
