National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Samuel Ofosu Ampofo is expected to appear before the Criminal Investigation Department of the Police Service to know his fate.

He is joined by National Communications Officer of the party, Sammy Gyamfi and Kwaku Boahen, Deputy Communications Officer who have all been invited by the Police CID for questioning over some comments their Chairman made when he met with some party faithfuls after the Ayawaso West Wugon by-election.

Speaking in an interview with host Kwame Nkrumah 'Tikese' on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, Kweku Boahen explained that they have met with the police CID and that they were asked to report today (Thursday) with their National Chairman.

Kweku Boahen who did not disclose what happened or what was discussed at the meeting, added that they were asked to report again with their National Chairman.

‘My tape was doctored’

Samuel Ofosu Ampofo honoured an invitation by the CID last week over the matter and insisted that the tape was doctored and was not his voice.

Although he maintained that a meeting was convened at the party’s office after the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, the utterances attributed to him were not a true representation of what transpired.

He was granted bail but was slapped with three counts of conspiracy to commit a crime to wit causing harm, the threat to harm and rioting. Mr. Ofosu Ampofo was invited after being heard in a leaked audio recording outlining plans to match up against groups from the governing New Patriotic Party ahead of the 2020 elections.

His plans also included verbal attacks on the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, and the Chairperson of the Peace Council, Prof. Emmanuel Asante.

The NDC Chairman said his approach to the election was going to be different and said there were plans for “covert and overt operations.”

Prof. Asante has come out to say he does not hold any grudge against Mr. Ofosu Ampofo for his purported utterances.

The National Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi said: “we know the government is engaged in illegal espionage activities in this country; employing state resources and the national security apparatus to spy on political opponents.”

But the government has denied claims it bugged the offices of the NDC after the National Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi held that the government is engaged in “illegal espionage.”
