A former Member of Parliament (MP) for Madina, Alhaji Amadu Seidu Bukari Sorogho has said the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) wants to dent the political career of Vice president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia with “dirty jobs.”
He observed, since Dr Bawumia was appointed a running mate for Nana Akufo-Addo when in opposition, the party loads him with duties that showcase him as a liar and make him a subject of public ridicule.
Alhaji Sorogho made this known on Inside Politics hosted by Mugabe Maase on Radio XYZ on Wednesday, after the Vice president addressed Ghanaians at a maiden Town Hall Meeting organised by the Economic Management Team in Accra.
Alhaji Sorogho believes Dr Bawumia churned out lies and “empty talk” to Ghanaians at the Town Hall meeting which was supposed to address the economic challenges the country is faced with, and stressed, the mockery and humiliation the Vice president was subjected to after the event made him sad.
“He is always pushed to do the dirty job of the NPP… People are mocking him on social media… They have tagged him as a king of lies…This is because he is always pushed to tell lies so the NPP looks good,” he said.
“He is my muslim brother. I don’t like what they [some Ghanaians] are doing to him, but do I have an option? His lies has earned him that,” the former MP noted.
At the event, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, among other things, attributed the recent depreciation of the Ghana cedi – one of the major challenges of the country’s economy – to directives from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
“One of the conditions that the Bank of Ghana had to meet was to increase its net international reserves to the level of December 2018. To increase the net international reserves, however, meant that the Bank of Ghana could not sell any foreign exchange in the market. They had to essentially hold their hands to the back and could not intervene on the market during this particular period.”
“So demands for foreign currency was not met by supply as normally happens on a day-to-day basis, and we know when the demand is greater than the supply or the supply is not coming, the price will go up and this is exactly what was happening,” Dr Bawumia said.
This, he said, was one of the seven actions the government needed to do for the IMF board before the completion of the IMF programme this year.
He also announced the government had lessened the tax burden on Ghanaians, thereby bringing some relief to Ghanaians.
Dr. Bawumia further stated the economic fundamentals of the country were strong and that, it was not only good on paper but impacting Ghanaians positively.
But reacting to the issues raised, Alhaji Sorogho said the Vice president lied so he was not surprised Ghanaians had tagged him as “king of lies”.
“Dumsor [incessant power cuts] has set in and Ghanaians are suffering…Teachers, Nurses are crying for employment. The 1D1F, the 1 Village 1 Dam projects cannot be seen,” he said and argued that the government is not doing much to help Ghanaians, especially at a time prices of fuel, and commodities were soaring.
He said policy rate and taxes were not down as Dr Bawumiah had stated, adding that “he [Bawumia] spoke like he was in political campaign season to score cheap political points.

Ghanaians should never make that mistake anymore! just look at their faces and see who which of them was a successful person before ndc won the 2009 election? ndc won that election because of Prof. Mills and he made a mistake employing these nonentities to ministerial positions, but I don't blame him because he didn't know the ndc members since he wasn't one of them and those he knew who could help him too refused to accept ndc positions so he had no option than to take these usel*ess entities who ran our country like a casino ! Sorogho is not a Ghanaian he is a settler and they are part of ndc problems, they have made that party unattractive and they keep on showing their dirty teeth to Ghanaians annoying the people!
PATHETIC NDC LOT. THESE CROP ARE SIMPLY UNFIT TO BE VOTED FOR. OBVIOUSLY NANA SHOULD CONTINUE.
No wonder he was hosted by another us3l3ss person called Salifu Mase
Mr Sorogho, if you have no contribution to make with regards to the economic indicators espoused by the Vice President, dont try to play the tribal cards. The country is gone long past that.
Be SAD for yourself and your NDC!
The NDC's tricks will not work. They are trying to set up a scenario where should NPP go for Alan Kyerematen in 2024, they can point a finger and say Bawumia should have been nominated. This of course will not fly.Since 2000 NPP has won more elections than NDC. In 1992 NDC started with an advantage in this it had virtually the entire state apparatus under its control and all other parties had just less than 6 months to organize, choose their candidates and take on the (P)NDC. In 1996 if anyone recalls at the end of the first day of voting Kufuor and Rawlings were tied at 48% each of the vote. It took 5 days for Afari-Gyan, after making a public cry for protection, to declare chairman Rawlings the winner. Since 2000, the elephant has gained in might - getting the majority in 2000, 2004, 2008 (1st round) and stunning 2016 victory. Even in 2012 if you take out the court case just look at the total number of votes cast for the MPs and here again you see NPP power! In all these elections there was not that much support from the North. We in the NPP know for a fact that the North is the home of the NDC/CPP left-wing elements in Ghana's politics. SO no amount of blackmailing will help. The 2008 election showed to the NPP that it must cultivate its Akan base. As John Boadu has said NPP cannot win an election without the Ashanti region. In the last election, NPP got 1.6 million votes from there while Bawumia and his North gave us all together about 800,000 votes. NDC should stop its tribal tricks. NPP is going through a difficult time. Come 2024 we will elect a flag bearer from a apart of Ghana that has consistently kept faith with the all-conquering great Danquah-Busia tradition
where from this man too? has he finished selling all the lands in Madina and Legon areas? you were mute until recently when someone took you to the Court for fraudulently swindling her. keep quiet ok?
See someone who was not qualified but because of political patronage was appointed Chairman of Fire Service Board only to go and import uniforms containing used condoms. In order words used clothing for the Fire Service personnel.
Be SAD for you and your NDC, because you are going to witness the highest electoral humiliation ever. Comfortable lead!
The Cedi depreciation recently was not due to weak fundamentals NDC explain for 10 points
