James Kwabena Bomfeh, popularly known as Kabila, a member of the Convention People's Party (CPP) has expressed disappointment at the stalled progress of the issuance of the Ghana Cards.
The Ghana Card since it was launched by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2017 has still not found its way into the hands of every citizen in the country.
Even though the National Identification Authority (NIA) has started the registration exercise in some public institutions, it is yet to be done nationwide.
Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has assured few days ago that the NIA will start with mass issuance of the cards by end of April 2019.
Speaking to the delay in issuance of the card, Kabila said it seems people ‘in high places’ are benefiting from the delay of the process.
“Do we learn at all in this country; the whole noise that surrounded this (Ghana Card); where are they now? That is why I keep saying we are a talking nation; it’s sad. Our challenges; there seem to be two things happening to it; either you have people at high places benefiting from the existence or persistence of these challenges or their network is so widespread or a combination of the two; otherwise I don’t see how these things should continue to persist . . . ” he bemoaned during a panel discussion on Peace FM's morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Monday.

FAILURE TO MAKE NATIONAL ID AVAILABLE TO ALL SHALL UNDERMINE THE INTEGRITY OF THOMAS KUSI BOAFO AND NPP. HE HAS REPEATEDLY PROCLAIMED, AMONG OTHER THINGS LIKE TRIAL OF POLITICAL CORRUPTION, THAT THE NPP GOVERNMENT WILL MAKE IT AVAILABLE TO ALL. HE ADDED THAT WITHOUT NID ONE CANNOT UNDERTAKE ANY AUTHENTIC TRANSACTIONS IN GHANA. ALL BECOME HAPPY TO LEARN THIS BECAUSE THAT IS THE PRACTICE OF ANY SERIOUS AND PROGRESSIVE GOVERNMENT.
I AGREE WITH KWABENA BONFEH'S CRITICISM ABOUT THE FAILURE OF NATIONAL ID TO BECOME NATIONAL. I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY DR. ATAFUAH HAS DISAPPEARED FROM THE MEDIA RADAR AND IS SILENT ALL THIS WHILE. RECENTLY EC SPOKE OF NEW VOTERS REGISTER. DO WE NEED A SEPARATE REGISTRATION FOR VOTERS REGISTER? ELSEWHERE SUCH REGISTER IS PRODUCED FROM THE NATIONAL DATA OF NATIONAL IDENTIFICATION AUTHORITY. IS IT NOT A WASTE OF RESOURCES AND LACK OF COORDINATION BY GOVERNMENT IF WE FAIL TO DO AS MUCH AS THAT.
