The time has come for Ghanaians, the media in particular, to rise up against the tyranny of President Nana Addo Danwka Akufo-Addo administration, a former Minister of Trade and Industries, Mr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah has said.
According to him, the Akufo-Addo administration of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is squandering the democratic gains Ghana has made over the years.
His comments follow the closure of two pro-opposition radio stations, Radio Gold and Radio XYZ by the National Communication Authority (NCA). The NCA said the two stations are among many radio stations operating without valid authorisation, according to the Director-General Joe Anokye.
He said the closures were part of enforcing the ruling of the Electronic Communication Tribunal.
Mr Anokye said Radio Gold’s authorisation expired since 2000 while Radio XYZ’s expired in 2016.
Mr Spio-Garbrah, who is also a former flag bearer hopeful of the NDC, told a vigil organised by the NDC over the closure of the stations that: “We had a culture in this country of encouraging openness, pluralism and democracy; and surprisingly, the party that has made the most noise of it being democratic and believes in human rights, are the ones that are killing it.
“So, I want to find whether you agree that it is time for Ghanaians to rise up against this creeping tyranny, it is time for the media to rise up, it is time for the international community to rise up. It is time for Ghanaians not to allow their freedoms to be trampled upon.”

I have never seen a Phd holder who is so hollow in ideas than this man who is walking encyclopedia with ***barred word*** ideas.. Oye batam.
WE ARE INDEED LIVING IN A FUNNY COUNTRY!!! WHICH CAR USER: TAXI DRIVERS, PRIVATE AND OTHER COMMERCIAL DRIVERS CAN DRIVE IN GHANA WITHOUT LICENCE? YOU OPERATE WITHOUT LICENCE AND WHEN THE LAW IS APPLIED, THE PRESIDENT HAS BECOME A DICTATOR. ARE THESE NOT THE SAME JOURNALIST WHO WRITE STORIES OF AFRICAN BEING BACKWARD AND COMPARE US WITH AMERICA AND EUROPE. YOU BRING A STORY OF GOVERNMENT NOT DOING MUCH, MEANWHILE YOU DON'T PAY YOUR TAXES!!!!! AND YOU HAVE SUCH PEOPLE LIKE SPIO DEFENDING GOVERNMENT ACTIONS. WHO ARE WE AT ALL. THE ONLY TIME YOU CAN FAULT GOVERNMENT IS WHEN GOVERNMENT DOES SELECTIVE JUSTICE ON THIS. GO ASK OMAN FM, IN NDC ERA THEY WERE CLEAN!!! YOU GO TO COLLEGE, ATTAIN DEGREES AND YOU TALK DISHONESTLY LIKE THIS!!!
Listen to this FOO&%$L!
Tell your children to join you and to do your "arise". They are also Ghanaians who benefitted from the monies you stashed when you were in power. Such characters fight for leadership positions in Ghana but they always side with wrongdoing. The media houses who flouted the laws are rather being supported against the state that is trying to ensure compliance. All journalists, like this m0r0n are very dishonest and wicked characters who will soon plunge this nation into chaos. When it comes to their own, they don't talk.
You and who? Your ndc double salary colleagues can join you. I thought this guy is sensible but he is not.
Na this one too be politician? My problem with Nana Addo is allowing these people to talk with all the stolen money.
Sometimes our political elites can be very disappointing in thier phlosophical and rational thinking. You are very much aware of the rules of the games guiding the operation of frequency modulation in Ghana. So the rules must work in Ghana as it is in other countries. Prove that you are a matured politician in your utterances and policcal practices.
I am very disappointed with this man So can't we get only one sensible person in this party to talk for them. Party in opposition instead of you educate Ghanaians on your policies. Everyone talk rubbish especially John Mahama
I thought you have a head. .
