Civil society group Centre for Democratic Development – Ghana has said Ghana has lost close to GHS10 billion to corruption, alone in the last three years.
At a premiering ceremony of CDD’s Corruption Watch initiative, its Executive Director, Prof Henry Kwasi Prempeh, said: “Weak governance and corruption hurt every nation, and the poor are often the hardest hit”.
“Over the years, Ghana has lost a great fortune to corruption and since its inception in November 2017, Corruption Watch, alone has discovered GHS9.6 billion stolen from public purse.
“Everyone here – every individual and every organisation – has an obligation to act with integrity, expose corrupt practices, and more importantly, help retrieve funds that have been embezzled”, Prof Prempeh said.
Per the Afrobarometer report, he said: “Almost two-thirds (64%) of Ghanaians want corrupt officials prosecuted, and, if found guilty, jailed and forced to return stolen funds, which should be used to build a public facility with the culprit’s name inscribed on it.”
“Another one-fifth (22%) favour government retrieval of stolen funds without prosecution. Only one in 10 (9%) would opt for prosecution without retrieval of stolen funds,” Prof Prempeh added.

ei Ghanaians. Someone/institution just throws out an allegation against someone/institution/Govt without further proof, and all we do is to start insulting here and there. CDD must provide further and better particulars as proof before we react...aghh!
Buying 275 buses is a criminal issue but buying Mahindra pick up for political campaign by an individual is not a crime. I don't blame anybody I blame the so called CHRAJ Commissioner he has not exhibited any thing to merit the position he was appointed to hold. Honoring promises is also a crime now? Where the buses being purchased from the Consolidated Account. 40 years ago , this was played in Ghana, an individual approaches his bankers for a facility which he was granted and he was shot for using his office. Are banks forbidden to grant loans to the customers to carry out planned activities? Are these loans not guaranteed? Mr. CHRAJ Commissioner please, please, please.
THE FIRST NPP CORRUPTION ISSUE STARTED WITH THE PURCHASING OF 275 BUSES FOR ALL NPP CONSTITUENCIE BY AN EXECUTIVE MEMBER OF THE NPP. WHERE FROM THAT MONEY ALL OF A SUDDEN? NO ONE WANTS TO TALK ABOUT IT BUT I ASURE THE ISSUE WILL NEVER EVER DIE. THE MAN WILL BY ALL MEANS GOE TO JAIL ONE-DAY, ONE-DAY. YU THINK WE HAVE FORGOTTEN OF THE ISSUE. "YOU LIE BAD"
Hmmm. CDD What is happening? All of sudden you are behaving like other'think tanks' I know who have been churning out reports without any details or cross checking the facts. I know you are matured enough. Once you have come out with a figure please give us the details, the circumstances and the parties who pocketed the state funds. Anything short of these will earn you another classification.
With all these findings and facts available Nana says his government is as clean and white as snow.Only going after Ndc culprits HMMMMMMM,we live to see
I am surprised at CDD. An organisation of high minded people can just throw figures out there like this without facts and statistics to support it. Please CDD come again with detail as to when, how and by what or whom were these money stolen. You can't just join the bandwagon. You can do better that!
What is this? in fact most Ghanaians just like to be heard by throwing allegations around without any facts to support them.9.6 billion ghs lost to corruption just like tha t, how by what means is irrelevant to some people how does this help to fight corruption?
after all this money gone into private pockets, you are calling for aid from other countries? ***barred word*** governments and leaders in Ghana
