The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has resolved to go into tree planting to help resuscitate the depleting forest cover in the country.
This was disclosed by the party’s General Secretary Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia at the 27th Anniversary Lecture of the NDC in Accra on Thursday, 20 June 2019.
Mr Nketia said the party has partnered the Forestry Commission to assist them with seedlings to grow more trees to help in provision of more oxygen.
He further noted that the party will not only plant over 3,000 trees across the country but will also ensure that the trees grow to serve the purpose for which they were planted.
The founder of the party, former president Jerry John Rawlings ahead of the June 4 celebrations planted a tree along the island separating the road between the Ghana Standards Board traffic lights and the Legon traffic lights.
The exercise was organised to encourage Ghanaians to re-embrace tree-planting as a way of life, to mitigate the effect of climate change and promote a cooler environment.

Interesting how good ideas come only when you are in opposition. Has Gen Mosquito ever planted a tree in his life?
They said they are running out of oxygen, so they are planting trees to get oxygen. it is important otherwise the party will die
THEY SAY NDC IS EVIL ACCORDING TO NPP SUPPORTERS. THAT IS GOOD. FOR EVERY ONE TREE PLANTED NDC WOULD HAVE BURRIED ONE LEADING NPP MEMBER. HAHAHAHAHAHA. THE EVIL THAT THE NPP AND ITS SUPPORTERS ARE CRYING FOR WILL LEAD NPP TO DOOM.
The forestry commission must be careful with these saboteurs ooooh! if they know how to fo that what prevented them from doing it during their time? where did those trees they planted in the north with millions of cedis go? Sir John Don't admit them oooo, they are dangerous they are saying this in another time you see them burning all the trees in Ghana, don't allow them ! how can opposition take an initiative of a government they hate and wish them evil policy and make it better? I'm surprised some of our npp leaders still don't get it with these dangerous evil ndc people. They want to sabotage the agriculture, it is not a big deal for the ndc to import army worms to destroy everything just to give the government a bad name for their political points! they are evil and dangerous ! they don't wish this country well! look at what ndc have done to thst bauxite mining company in the Western North? sent people there snd instigated them to demonstrate and destroy properties so the Chines will leave and the SH Money wouldn't come but they lie bad if even Afghanistan is safe for that company to operate how much more Ghana on the 4th as the most peaceful in Africa when ndc time Ghana was the 6th but the man who was the head of the ndc regime is calling for Ghana is not safe when he presided over Ghana as the 6th in safety in Africa When his time kidnappings and contract killings were unprecedented he has the guts to talk like a serial caller who doesn't know what happens at the presidency. Sir John rescind your decision of working with the evil ndc on the tree planting! Don't entertain evil for they never change!
Perhaps that is your call. keep it up NDC. Let Akufo-Addo do governing and you do tree planting. it is best for you.
When they had money, they planted tree during hamattan. These are bunch of foools
They should go to the Northern part where the need is most to push back against the Sahel environment and under the sad SADA saga, they cut all the trees.
Good move NDC!! it IS better for you to be planting trees than lying and causing mischief!!
