Ashanti Regional Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sam Payne has urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to create additional polling stations if they want to reduce the number of voting hours.
The EC Chair, Jean Mensa at the opening ceremony of an ECOWAS-UN Workshop on Tuesday said the Commission is considering reviewing the voting duration ahead of the 2020 elections.
“As a commission, we are not only keen to ensure a peaceful and conducive voting environment but we are keen to guarantee the security of the ballot and make every vote count. In this regard, one of the issues that has occupied our mind is the duration of voting,” she said.
Sam Payne, speaking on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo”, noted that though the EC proposal is good; “they should be ready to create extra polling station especially where the numbers are many…if not the new directive can disenfranchise the voting process”.
