Former PNC General Secretary, Atik Mohammed has passed criticisms about the candidature of Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto who is contesting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer race.
The former Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto resigned from office to contest the NPP presidential primaries.
He is among ten aspirants going to the party’s Super Delegates Congress in August this year to trim the number to five who will be contesting in the main congress.
Discussing the prospects of the aspirants in the race, Atik Mohammed cast doubts over Dr. Afriyie Akoto’s chances of winning the contest.
He questioned the former Minister’s motivation for going into the election.
"Quiet frankly, I do not know what is pushing him to contest. Sometimes, we need to tell ourselves the hard truth. The first question is what are you taking forward?"
To him, Dr. Afriyie Akoto didn’t prove himself worthy when he was at the Ministry of Agriculture, hence wonders why he would even have the courage to go into the primary.
"We didn't see any wonders at the Ministry of Agriculture," he said on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show.

Hon. Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto has proven beyond doubt that he's the only candidate who can save this country from always depending on international communities for funds to support our budgets. With his agriculture policies on 6 tree crops is a loudable policy that can help the country's economy and also help reduce the country's debt. #TheLegendAKOTOFactor

Rented man, just a simple check from GSS would have proven to you he is the best agric minister in the history of GHANA. Highest growth of agric in the history of GHANA, high production of cocoa in the history of GHANA. Just because of nokofio, you come and sound empty publicly
The party that gave birth to the government has been side line in all its activities, a few family and friends are benefiting. We have addressed our concerns to Dr Akoto and believe he has the grassroots members at heart. We will support him to bring back sanity to our beloved party. We are disappointed in Atik Mohammed’s statement and believe he is being used mischievously to achieve a certain ambition. Kindly ignore his statement.
I’m really disappointed in Atik Mohammed for making them use him. I thought he could realize how Instrumental Dr.Akoto has being and rather praise him for his huge touted achievements not knowing Atik Mohammed could come so low to be used like this. I admonish Atik Mohammed to join the best candidate like Dr.Akoto whose message is waving in the country as it stands. From records, there is no doubt that Dr.Akoto is the best candidate. If I will understand Atik Mohammed, I will understand on the fact that bad people like Atik Mohammed who wants the country’s economy to fall apart and think about himself is against the right leader like Dr.Akoto who will do the job better. Atik should come again and retract his statement before he comes to tell Us that he committed a mistake against the best leader in the country so far . Dr.Akoto noaa na y3 p3. He is the best to lead looking at how his vision is structured and his track records. He alone can save the Ghanaian economy with agriculture
Atik Mohammed is so ***barred word*** that he does not know the hardwork Dr.Akoto sacrificed himself to do fir the betterment of the lives of Ghanaian farmers. I want to put it on record that readers should ignore a naysayer like Atik Mohammed for he has being hired to misbehave towards the highly earned reputation of the former best food and Agriculture minister,Dr.Akoto. It is on record and there is no doubt that Dr.Akoto has become the favorite in the contest.
My brother, i have been asking same question too. Some of those contesting should go back to their pillows, put your head on it and asked themselves 'can i win this primaries? They will get an instant answer with their heads on the pillow. Apart from Bawunia, Allan and Ken, the rest are paying filing fees to boost the coffers of the national secretariat of the NPP.
Atik Mohammed, you have said it all. why would a failed minister contest for presidency
