Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice-President, has emphasized the importance of maintaining a clean and respectful campaign as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership race intensifies.
Dr. Bawumia stressed that once the contest concludes, the party must unite to prevent the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from returning to power, and therefore, internal acrimony should be avoided.
During an address to party faithful in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Bawumia stated that he has instructed his supporters and spokespersons not to respond to aspirants who attack him.
He underscored the significance of recognizing that unity is crucial within the party, as they must present a united front against the "main enemy," which is the NDC.
"I have instructed all my supporters and spokespersons that we must conduct a clean campaign, avoiding any form of insults. We are one family, and we must remain united. Once the contest concludes, we will come together as a cohesive force to ensure the NDC does not return to power."
The NPP has scheduled the election of its flagbearer for the 2024 elections on November 4.
Thus far, all 10 flagbearer hopefuls have received clearance to participate in the upcoming elections.
The party announced this in a press release issued on Wednesday, July 12.
According to the press statement, the Vetting Committee chaired by Prof. Mike Oquaye approved all 10 candidates after individually vetting them.
Justin Kodua Frimpong, the General Secretary of the party, stated that the Committee's report, pursuant to Article 10(3) of the NPP constitution, confirmed the approval of the candidates.

Well said, i gave same advice in one of my comments yesterday and Bawumia has done as i wished. Fact is that Bawumia might be younger compared to the other aspirants. We are also aware that when he was chosen as the running mate to the current president in 2008, he came to meet people in the NPP. But as fate will have it he's the Vice President and the number 2 personalities in Ghana currently. Let's remember the presidential candidate of the NDC and former president, John Mahama once threw a jab at Bawumia when he said, the day he ( Bawumia) will step out to say he wants to lead the NPP will be the day the "owners " of the NPP will tell him where he belongs. John Mahama would have been vindicated if Bawumia loses the primaries, that is my pain.,Again the Akan tag on the NPP would shown if Bawumia loses the NPP primaries. The NPP delegates have a responsibility of ensuring that John Mahama words to Bawumia does not come to pass. John Mahama openly said the NPP will never allow Bawumia to lead them, for one of the aspirants to openly say 8 of them are ganging up to ensure Bawumia does not lead the party gives credence to what John Mahama said. Look at this scenario; A young man wanted money to pay his school fees but had no money. He told his friends he was going to see one rich man for the money. One of the his friends told him that rich man is very wicked and will never part with his money. Another friend went and told the rich man what someone said about him. If i were this rich man however wicked i am I will give the young man the money to go and pay the school fees to put to shame the one who said i will never assistant the young man. In the same vain the NPP delegstes will be assisting to vindicate John Mahama if Bawumia loses the presidential primaries, this is my worry. But for this Allan, Kennedy and the others are all party stalwarts, no doubt about that. I wish the delegates vote for Bawumia to pull down the Akan party tag on the NPP and put to shame all those who are using this to make the NPP unpopular in certain parts of the country. Once again Bawumia supporters who have the opportunity of sitting on radio and television should shut their ears to the insults on him.If any television host ask any of you to respond to any insult on Bawumia simply tell the host your upbringing does not allow you to insult elderly people, simple as that.
