New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, has taken a swipe at one of his contenders for the position, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, over his handling of Ghana’s economy.
Speaking in an interview on Citi TV, on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, Dr Apraku refuted assertions that persons referring to the performance of Ghana’s economy under Dr Mahamudu Bawumia are needlessly attacking him.
According to him, the vice president's record must be brought to bear to determine whether he can lead the country or not.
“There is no problem (calling out Dr Bawumia). We are dealing with reality. If you are a messiah and you cannot heal your home; what kind of a messiah are you?
“I think this is completely acceptable. This is politics, we’re competing. Politics is a competition of ideas; your idea against my idea, your vision against my vision. And in that interrogation, everything should be opened," he said.
The presidential hopeful added that he would not accept tribal politicking and politics of insults.
“I would resent it if somebody was talking about ethnicity; I would resent it if somebody personalises the campaign – those haven’t surfaced. But when we are looking at our records, obviously if you want to govern his country and you have been involved in anything that comes close to governing the country, we have the right to examine how you have handed it,” he said.
He also said that it is clear that Vice President Dr Bawumia is the establishment candidate in the flagbearship race.
Ten people would be contesting in the NPP presidential primaries which are slated for August and November 2023.
A super delegate conference would be held in August 2023 to reduce the number of contenders to five while the primaries proper would be held in November 2023 to choose the party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 elections.
The ten candidates include Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; a former Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen; Kwadwo Poku, an energy expert; Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Joe Ghartey; a former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto; a former General Secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong; MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong; a former MP for Offinso North, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku; and a former Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko.

Dr. Apraku looks tired. He needs rest. He should call it quits
Apraku, hear this. No Messiah is loved by his own people. The founder of Christianity, Jesus Christ was crucified by the very people he came to save. Today pastors are living luxurious life's using his name, Jesus never enjoyed life like we are witnessing today seeing pastors and bishops riding flashy cars, some even have private jets. Mohammed , the founder of Islam was chased out of Mecca and he had to seek refuge in Madina. Today Saudi Arabia is the leading producer of crude oil in the world. The Saudi economy makes 2 billion dollars every year from Hajj operations alone. Mohammed never enjoyed from Saudi oil proceeds, but he was the one who prayed to Allah to bless his people. In the same vain Bawumia the Messiah cannot heal his own people because they don't like him, Like Jesus if his people had the opportunity, they will crucify him. The interesting thing is that the very people who don't want to hear the name BAWUMIA are the very people who will enjoy when he becomes president just like the Saudi's who chased Prophet Mohammed out of his home but today are enjoying life as one of the richest country in the world.
For the first time i agree with the ex president when he said “what politics can do to fine people”. How can such a person of integrity who has set up a high standard for himself descend so much lower. The hatred, envy and jealousy that these people are harbouring for Bawumia is not helping them at all. I can’t get how refined and measured people like Agyarko, Kwabena Agyepong and Apraku are behaving these days because of Bawumia just putting himself through the process to be the flag bearer if the delegates accept him. What has this nice, respectful and respectable man done wrong?
Wow what a surprise !!!!!!!. I thought this man was a decent and measured man. Please is Dr Bawumia the one managing the economy . Why have you left out the president himself and the finance minister who take the bulk decision regarding the economy. This shows that this man is among the bunch of hypocrites who could not talk before but because of race for flag bearer they are all coming out of the wood works to lay charge against the assistant leaving out the main person in charge. This outburst coming from this man shows how desperate they have become. Who Jah bless no man can bring down . Shameful of a man . All my respect for this man has disappeared
Indeed wisdom is really is not associated with old age or grey hair
My last month paycheck was for 11000 dollars…
Why should people who should know better can stoop so low. The Aprakus know that the vice president position is just a ceremonial and moreover we all witnessed how well the economy was before the Covid followed by the Russia, Ukraine War. I’m happy that the Ashanti mps and almost all the delegates are supporting Bawumia. Alan, Apraku, Kwabena Agyapong, Agyarko, Kennedy Agyapong who can all trace their ancestry to Ashanti who are conspiring against Bawumia will be disgraced eventually. I’m Ashanti myself and I’m happy with the good news coming from Ashanti for the vice president. It is possible and the battle is still the Lord’s.
It's embarrassing respected Dr APRAKU will stoop this low due to envy, bitterness and jealousy...Bawumia must be calm and focus...he who JAH blesses will never fail!
Hello, Mr Akumadan Tomalos, where from this?
