A Political analyst and Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Dr. Jonathan-Asante Otchere has said Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s inconsistency with his messages will cause the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming 2024 elections.
This comes on the back of Vice President Bawumia assuring the NPP that he is going to give the National Democratic Congress (NDC) a “showdown” in its strongholds in the 2024 elections.
Addressing NPP delegates in the Oti Region on Saturday September 09, 2023 Dr. Bawumia stated that the Zongos and other strongholds of the NDC are waiting for him to be elected flag bearer of the NPP.
Commenting on the development on Morning Starr with Francis Abban on Monday September 11, 2023, the political analyst stated that he cannot fathom how the NPP should put Dr. Bawumia ahead of Alan Kyerematen.
“For NPP to put Bawumia ahead of Alan, maybe Alan was not good enough. But for the NPP machinery to do that I don’t know whether they have done any calculable analysis to send Dr. Bawumia to the forefront of NPP. Because everything that he says if he wins the Presidential slot of the NPP has tape recording or a video of what he said previously.
“So it is that inconsistency that is going to create a problem for the NPP in their campaign, because there are two key words involved, trustworthiness and deliverability,” the political analyst stated.
Dr. Asante-Otchere further stated that Ghanaians will not trust Dr. Bawumia considering his statement made in the past.

@ Albert, you see the problem with some of you guys? You must be living in a ***barred word*** paradise to be counting on euphoria to win elections in the year 2024. This is unacceptable for our democracy, we are certainly short of refined forward thinkers and generational transformative leadership, I will not be surprised if this is the thinking of the Bawumia camp. It's such a shame how ridiculous Akufo Addo and his Bawumia camp are, backwardness at its best.
Well said Dr. only weak minded people will take Bawumia seriously.
Bawumia is a spectacular failure. I am a die-hard NPP supporter but fact is, in the unlikely even that Bawumia wins this NPP primaries, we should know that Mahama has already garnered 60% of the votes not that Mahama is an alternative or a good candidate but bcos Bawumia is a FAILURE and lot of NPP followers including myself and my family and most people in Ashanti and Eastern regions (our strong holds) will not cast their votes in the general elections
Why can anyone say Bawumia is a liar or inconsistent? Has he ever denied what he said when the Npp was in opposition? This is Ghana politics. How many poor Ndc voters whose children have and had the chance to get free SSS boarding school voted for this president. In 2008, remember Hotel Waawaa and the other alleged corruption cases against Kufour and his associates but the Npp needed forty thousand votes to win one touch. Had it not disunity among the leaders, the Npp would have sailed through. The euphoria that would follow Bawumia would be enough for him to sail through. Mark my, insha Allah
A televised debate should have been held for all to assess all the 10 NPP candidates on issues such as the economy, education, foreign affairs, and national security. It is unfortunate that some are quitting when the general public and many who take interest in party politics haven't been able to assess them. A debate should be held to assess the remaining candidates.
@kk, of course everyone can mount defence for any sloppy statements they made. But the issue is not in the defending, it's in the substance of the defence. Society has progressed, thankfully more people are advanced in thinking to be able to do basic analysis. I heard the defence of Bawumia on the famous "if the fundamentals are weak, the exchange rate will expose you", if he's going to be making the kind of defences he did in this matter , then I can assure you that only the weak minded, die hard NPP supporters and the extremely corrupt people in society will find him credible enough to be elected. As usual, with no iota of shame, he programs himself into a hysterical moment, laughing as though he was possessed just to reduce the significance of the matter at hand. I don't think decent minded people will fall for uncultured fallacy and unjustifiable failure
Bawumia can defend every statement made now and before!
NDC did so well in getting rid of Alan knowing the 2 left are just mugu yaros whose videos, audios, inconsistencies will do campaign for the opposition . An NPP member said if care isn’t taken, the party will one day be hijacked by drug dealers . Truly, Bawumia hasn’t been tagged with anything drug but Ken ….. NPP is truly ready for opposition
This Professor has spoken my mind....................................................................... i am a floating voter so when i compare the two ................................................hahaha in making objective analysis not tribal one, it should be easy choice
During the 2004 elections, former president Kufuor coined a slogan thus " then and now" where he showcased what he came to meet and what he has done when he came into office. History may repeat itself in 2024 as the TV Stations will be flooded with videos of what people said when they were in opposition and what they did when the people gave them power. In 2024 John Mahama will be campaigning on his own record and not that of Rawlings or Mills since he has been president before. Dr Bawumia, likely flagbearer of the NPP will also be campaigning on the record of Akuffo Addo and not Kufuor since he was/is the number 2 man in government. Ghanaians will not be interested in new promises, we will play videos of what the two said earlier and what they have achieved, (corruption, good governance, educational infrastructure, health infrastructure, roads, economic stability, security, food security, quantum of scandals whiles in government, food prices, fuel prices, cost of living/standard of living). These is the yardstick people will use to measure the NDC and NPP in 2024. People are not interested in any new promises. Ya teaaa bre.
