Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful Alan Kyerematen has announced his decision to resign from the party and to contest as an independent candidate in 2024
" . . under the circumstances, and given the context provided I wish to use this platform to announce that I am honourably resigning with immediate effect from the NPP to contest for the high office of the President of the Republic of Ghana as an independent presidential candidate," he said during a press conference on Monday, 25th September, 2024.
"I believe I am the leader for this time...what Ghana needs now is a leader, not a new political party" he indicated
To actualize his goal as an independent candidate, the former Trades Minister said "I will establish and lead a new MOVEMENT FOR CHANGE in Ghana. The brand logo for the MOVEMENT is the Monarch Butterfly, which politically symbolizes change and transformation, hope, and positivity. It also communicates strength, endurance, spirituality, and trust, which are key traits that I cherish as a Political Leader. In Akan, it is known as Afrafranto. The brand motto of the MOVEMENT is “Ghana Will Rise Again,” which symbolizes hope for the future of Ghana".
"The new Movement will be led and powered by the youth of Ghana. Out of the over 17 million registered voters in the 2020 general election, the youth aged 18-35, years constituted over 9.4 million voters representing 55% (Fifty five percent) of the total voters," he added.
It may be recalled that Alan Cash as he is popularly called on Tuesday, September 5 announced his withdrawal from the November 4 elections, citing various reasons.
In a statement, he said: "After having carefully analysed the results of the said elections, it is absolutely clear to me from events leading to, during and after the elections, that the Special Delegates Conference was strategically and tactically skewed in favour of one particular Aspirant...I wish to confirm that I am honourably withdrawing from the process that will lead to the Presidential Primaries to be held on the 4th of November 2023".

Oh, now Hopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene Ntow, Buaben Asamoah and The other can go Balistic against NPP. We are happy
He who is faithful in little shall be faithful in much. It saddens me that Alan didn't reveal all his policies while working as a minister. He should have taken advantage of his ministerial position in 2017 to propose several transformational initiatives. It also saddens me, the Alan couldn't take NPP (a party which doesn't belong to one man) to court to address his grievances. Anyway, I wish him well.
You will lose. Mark it down. You are too funny. You will see your funniest face at the end of 2024 election.
Reading through the comments, although I may agree to some extent some of the points raised by some, it's however clear to me that most of you are just party loyalists who will lick the boots if their party at any time without giving any thoughts. It's better in my opinion to be loyal to individual party members based on their demonstrated qualities than to be loyal to the party as an organisation that sees different people being elected to run or lead the party and changed periodically. You can sometimes get good guys to lead the party or the nation soundly but you could equally get terrible people to lead the party or the nation, in such circumstances, you're supposed to defend the interest of the nation and switch off your "loyalty" to your party. That's why being a die hard party faithful may be akin to being a man who does not use his sense.
This man Alan K is the most selfish man that ever walked the earth. He knows very well that he will not win presidency as an independent candidate. He just hopes to steal enough votes from Bawumia so Bawumia does not win. I think he is full of hatred. Shame.
Alan All the way. The youth of this country has carried water and alcohol and there has been no proper show.Lets consider an independent candidate and see.
Our motto is let DOG them both NPP and NDC .Alan all the wayyyyy
This is no news. He resigned before and quietly returned to the party. He should never be allowed to join the party again. But his followers are running to Bawumia camp. He will get 0.5% of the votes. He can ask Konadu Rawlings.
Allan's resignation and going ahead to contest the 2024 elections as an independent presidential candidate is a wake up call to the current NPP leadership. Nobody should take Allan for granted. The 2024 elections will be closely fought and too close to call i e NPP's insistence on 'breaking the 8' and John Maham'a's insistence on coming back to the presidency, thus every single vote counts. Every vote for Allan is a vote against the NPP because anybody who intends to vote for Allan is much more likely to be an NPP member or a floating voter. If Allan is able to garner 1-2% of total valid votes cast in 2024, bet me the NPP is likely to lose the election. Unlike the Kufuor era, Majority of today's NPP appointees are full of empty pride so they dont listen to sound advice and thus all the "wahala" the party is currentyly going through in the hands of Ghanaians. To majority of current NPP appointees, personal interest comes first before the party or national interest thus the party seems to have run out of elders who command respect in the eyes of the ordinary NPP members. In the NDC, when their chairman of council of elders, Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu speaks, they listen. Who in the NPP today commands same respect as an elder. It is becoming clear that NPP'S loss in 2024 will be Allan's win because he knows he cannot be president of Ghana through contesting as an independent presidential candidate. Unfortunately what these empty pride NPP appointees fail to recognize is that ; if you say anyone who wishes to leave the NPP is free to go because you think that person cannot build, also ask yourself whether same person can't pull down. Am NPP but i fear for my party in 2024, the self inflicted problems are just too much, and they keep on coming.
BAD Loser! Anytime he loses an election massively, he resigns from the party. I hope he doesnt return saying he has been spoken to. Clearly he doesnt intend to win a presidential election. He feels he deserves the slot and not Bawumia. If Nana Addo even had said in 2007 that he will support him, he cannot do so now. This is an internal contest and the best Nana could do is to remain neutral now and then support whoever wins. This demonstrates some entitlement from Alan and if Bawumia wins Nov 4th handsomely, he will sweep the Northern votes and be president. Alan will perform even worse than Nduom
