The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it respects the decision of its former flagbearer aspirant, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen to resign and contest the 2024 election as an Independent Candidate.
In a press statement read by the party's General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua in addressing party members and the media on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 a day after Alan Kyerematen's resignation, he said "the disappointing part is the mode in which he decided to resign from the party, which was through a press conference without prior notice to the party."
"The Party wants to believe that by his decision to hold the press conference to resign without first informing the leadership of the Party suggests that he has made a premeditated and irrevocable decision to resign from the Party.
"It needs emphasizing that, when the National Chairman visited him on behalf of the Party after the August 26 Special Electoral College, in an attempt to bring all the ten aspirants together, he did not portray any sign of resigning from the party, let alone going independent.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) acknowledges Mr. Kyerematen’s contributions to our party's growth and development over the years. We respect his decision and extend our gratitude for the services rendered to the NPP and the nation," Justin Frimpong Kodua stated.

Such a ***barred word*** response as though he was campaigning. Ghanaians are wild awake. Your evil machinations will come to light one by one. You'll see the repercussion right here on earth. Evil people.
Kudos to the general secretary for the maturity exhibited in his response to Allan's resignation. I wish that NPP communicators who go for newspaper reviews at the various FM and TV stations nationwide will take a cue from the general secretary's response. The tendency for some to make unguided utterances on this matter should be avoided. Some journalists may push you to speak ill of Allan. In all these let maturity prevail. You don't need to insult someone to make your point. Fact is that Allan was a leading and respected member of the NPP . If he decides to resign and go solo, so be it. However the Nigerians have a saying thus " Meat that has fat will prove it by the heat of fire " Nobody should take Allan's decision to contest as an independent presidential candidate for granted. All the party needs is to re-strategize by getting closer to the grassroots who feel neglected, forgotten and abandoned. Contractors who have executed various projects should be paid, if there is no money, at least pay them in 50% for now than to just close your eyes as they wallow in poverty. The current NPP leadership both in government and party keeps repeating same mistakes that led the NDC out of power. You don't send demotivated troops to a battle front and expect to win in a war. 2024 could turn out to be the most fiercely contested elections since 1992 i.e. John Mahama's insistence on coming back and the NPP's insistence on " breaking the 8". Those NPP attaches who speak loosely by saying anyone who wants to leave the party can leave should be very careful. How many of those making such statements have their own biological children who are 18 years and above who will queue to vote for the party to " break the 8". We have ministers, MMDCEs and CEO's who don't have one single child of their own who is qualified to vote, so who's 18 year old are you expecting to queue to vote for the NPP to " break the 8" ? Unfortunately this is the group who make unguided statements the most forgetting that arrogance, empty pride and loose talks will not take them anywhere. Am NPP but i fear for the party going into 2024. The problems are just too much to many. One can't just imagine that such things can happen under an Akuffo Addo( we heard of) led government. At times you wonders how come.
Alan's political career within NPP is over. He is not a loyal party member. He should NEVER be allowed to join the party again. How many times will you resign from a party?
The sad thing is he will organise another press conference and say Former president Kufour and other council of elders have spoken to him so he is no more going independent. However, due to the shame of rejoining the party, he will instead edge his so-called supporters to return to NPP whilst he retires from active politics and class himself as a stateman.
Such a wasteful individual, I am so disappointed in Alan. I have supported him with all the strength I have, but his process of resigning from the party, his penchant, was disappointing and disrespectful and disappointing!!!
Matured response from a well-cultured party leadership devoid of buga-buga and insults. One can only wish Alan well in his future endeavour. Long Live the NPP, Long Live Ghana
Good one,NPP is always sharp, precise and decent, devoid of attack...long live NPP,God bless our homeland Ghana.
