Atik Mohammed has cautioned the governing New Patriotic Party to call their presidential aspirant, Kennedy Agyapong and the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Bosiako alias Chairman Wontumi, to order or else the party may regret before the 2024 elections.
The former PNC General Secretary admonished the leadership of the party to put their house in order, stressing if they don't, the party may collapse due to the unbridled behavior of some of the leading members, particularly the aforementioned names.
He noted that the threats and counterthreats issued to one another are unhealthy and a canker to the NPP.
"All these show there is a serious, serious leadership vacuum in the NPP . . . These are isolated manifestations of the deep-seated power vacuum or the leadership vacuum I'm talking about and the earlier they dealt with it, the better for them," he stated on Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo".
He opined that the NPP, contrary to popular views that it is an elite party, "now it's been taken over by those who can shout the loudest, those who can claim they have money and those who can insult the more. That's what the NPP has been reduced to and we have seen that manifest in these elections or in these campaigns".
Atik warned the NPP saying, "they are going into an election and their primaries preceding the elections can collapse the party before even the main election and there seems not to be a figurehead calling everybody to order . . . a lot needs to be done in the NPP, otherwise before 2024, it will be difficult to refer to that entity as the political party they set up".

See who is talking 👄, Massa go and solve your house matters 8
@obi-ba, just to reiterate, my comment in any way didn't predict the politicians who were on your thoughts. However, your argument was factual and I leveraged on that to put out my thoughts on what is happening currently in favour of Bawumia. Whiles I had personally admired Bawumia before, the current happenings and the manner in which the NPP has managed the economy and stolen the public purse that they vowed to "protect", have exposed him as equally guilty of what we think about the other politicians whose actions and action have cumulatively sunk our nation. This does not in any way align me with any opposition party, to be honest, I have now decided to be a neutral and patriotic person who would always analyse issues before lending my support to anyone. If any party has benefited from me, it is the NPP, I remember how I was personally affected when the NPP lost in 2012. That notwithstanding, I also think political parties play a huge role as to how the country would be governed, however, the individuals leading it also play a major role. I can see a different NPP under Kuffour than the NPP under Nana Addo and I believe the woes of the country and the NPP will not lessen if Bawumia is unconventionally made to lead the party and the unlikely event the country.
Thank you for acknowledging my comments, I appreciate it and mother Ghana deserves better. However, the pedigree of the politicians I was referring to in no way includes Dr Bawumia, whom I admire wholeheartedly. In fact, I did not refer to Bawumia and neither did Atik Mohammed, who wrote the piece. As much as I agree with you that some media houses are guilty of playing into the polarised two-party political situation in Ghana, I also agree that those who can read between the lines should come out impartially to express their opinions in the ultimate interest of mother Ghana. Above all, we must be careful not to fall prey to unfounded political polemics and vile propaganda. It is always the political parties that have no political message in terms of policies they will implement to improve the lives of the electorate that resort to vile propaganda and personal defamation.
@obi-ba, you couldn't have said it any better. Our corrupt media are very guilty in this, they brandish certain disgusting people as though they were super humans, only for them to get the people's power and display unbelievable levels of incompetence, corruption, indiscretion and selfishness. That's exactly what they are doing for Bawumia now. What's "hidden" in Bawumia that Ghanaians couldn't benefit from in 7 years? And if deliberately withheld this "hidden treasure" from Ghanaians because he's not the main president, then he's an evil man that we should not tolerate. Or rather, if other people sabotaged this "hidden genius" and he couldn't take the appropriate steps to address, then he's not worth our power because he's not a man of of his own, he has no convictions and he cannot stand strong as a leader in the midst of challenges. Some people including the current NPP leadership and elders across the country hate Ghana so much and we must prove them wrong!
Just look at the pedigree of those mentioned in the warning to the NPP to be careful or the collapse of the NPP before the elections is imminent. It all goes to show that in Ghana, we mistakenly worship some disgusting people to the extent that they become monsters in the society. Notwithstanding, they still have the audacity to become politicians who are often corrupt and disrespectful; hence, kleptocracy becomes the order of the day to maintain their political power. When they become the opposition and do not get their way, they resort to vile threats.
I honestly feel that NPP has no council of Elders. There are no Elders in the party. They are all self-seeking Elders without conscience. Nana Addo and his family have fragmented the party. This is the reason why they pushing for Bawumia who have under-performed to become the flag bearer so that they can continue to manipulate him. Bawumia has stopped discussing the Economy because it has completely broken down
The happenings in the Npp now is just a case of selfish old guards refusing to handover to the next generation of young leadership. The party will out rightly collapse if Bawumia does not become the flag bearer. People have had enough of the old guards period.
See the nerve tick of safari kayi, scratching his head when atik said it will be difficult to recognise npp as a political party. And see how he wanted to close atik from his conclusion. A person of interest is this man and very immoral is sefa kayi. Your end is nigh chairman General.
Amen oooo
The behavior of the current leadership of the NPP creates an impression of they don't care about a future NPP after their exit. Maybe they think they have amassed enough to carry them through all their lives even if they don't work. I keep saying if former president Kufuor and his appointees were like these particular crop of NPP Appointees, there was no way Akuffo Addo would ever become president . See, the fact that after 8 years in office a presidential candidate took over from Kufuor and led with 49%+ in the first round of the 2008 elections is a clear proof that kufour handled the party and government very well to the admiration of majority if not all NPP members. Kufour knew exactly what he was about thus the many successes he chalked as president. Just look at the NPP of today, nobody seems to be in control. CEO's, ministers, MMDCEs, etc are all operating government business like private owned enterprises. I sometimes pity former president kufour, it's like all the efforts he made to make the NPP attractive to especially the youth ,majority of whom have never seen the Danquah-Dombo-Busia tradition in power is being dismantled by self seeking, inward looking, greedy, full of empty pride group of people who represents nobody but themselves. When NPP was NPP with the likes of stalwarts such as Late B. K. Adama, C. K. Tedam, R R. Amponsah, Peter Ala Adjetey, Professor Adu Boahen, J. A Addison, Alhaji Abdul-Rahman Salifu COP , Alhaji Abudullah Issahaku, Hawa Yakubu, Christine Churcher, Theresa Amaley Tagoe, Gladys Asmah etc, such things cannot happen. These were people who can look at " power eye ball to eye ball and speak the truth. Today those in charge are all "stomach direction" politicians so truth has become an antelope in the NPP , immediately it appears hunters begin to throw stones, shoot to scare it away. If not how come that a brand new 2017 elephant with very big ears, and yet it won't listen, at best it hears, but won't listen thus all these. You have internal wranglings within an army and this same army is going to war with another army that looks solid and well oiled. hmmmmm .
