Atik Mohammed has asked the New Patriotic Party to reposition itself if the party wants to win the 2024 general elections.
The New Patriotic Party ended its presidential election on Saturday, November 4, with Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia declared winner.
The Vice President became the NPP flagbearer by securing 118,210 representing an impressive 61.47%.
His closest rival, Ken Ohene Agyapong, secured 71,996 votes representing 37.41% and Dr. Afriyie Akoto and Francis Addai-Nimoh garnered 1459 and 781 votes respectively.
Over 200,000 delegates participated in the election which was dubbed a ‘showdown’.
Although the NPP had a successful election, the several allegations that were thrown against Dr. Bawumia, to some people, have dented the image of the party.
For the party to become a formidable force in next year's election, there is the need for all hands to be on deck and in respect of this, Atik is admonishing them to engage in a serious rebranding and repositioning to disabuse their supporters and Ghanaians of their mistrust in the party.
"Now, the task ahead is herculean. It is not easy and I have said, to convert this tragedy into a success story for Ghanaians to vote for you is not easy. It requires careful planning. It requires rebranding, repositioning and a lot more other things," he said on Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo".

Hmmmnnn, immediately you see same product being rebranded ,it tells you there is a problem. In 2008 when former president Kufuor was about to hand over power ,the NPP didn't go for any rebranding. Infact the candidate who took over the baton in 2008 as NPP flag bearer led with 49% in the first round of the 2008 elections. We were told this particular candidate needed just 5,000 votes to cross the 50%+1 mark to win the elections. This tells you the NPP was still the popular choice of Ghanaians after 8 years in office thanks to the leadership style of president kufour and majority of his appointees ( i often wonder whether the current president learnt any lessons from kufour as one of his appointees , from every indication he didn't). Kufour had his ears on the ground and listened a lot. He gave a lot of power to the party executives from constituency to regional to national. Under kufour party executives could cause the removal of MMDCE, minister if he misbehaved or show disrespect towards them. Under this current president, the appointees are more powerful than the party executives, this is unusual of the NPP we saw from 2001-2008. Kufuor and his appointees always looked back to be sure the party was closely following the government. Under this president, the party is miles and miles away from the government. For the first time in the fourth republic we saw appointees of government disassociating themselves from certain actions of the government, for the first time we saw MP's of the ruling party numbering over 100 calling for the removal of a novice of a finance minister. For the first time in the fourth republic a known opposition/ minority party figure is speaker of parliament by majority decision ooooo. All these because someone will not listen to anybody except himself. But for these, NPP doesn't need any rebranding. As things stand out now the ones to " break the 8" are the ordinary NPP supporters in the street and not slogans from appointees some of whom have no biological children of their own who is/ are 18 years and above to queue to vote for the party to "break the 8". To this class of appointees, who's 18 years old and above children are you relying on to join the queue and vote for the NPP to " break the 8" for you to continue to be ministers, CEO's ,MMDCE's and presidential staffers? Bawumia has a lot of work to do. Some of the votes Kennedy Agyapong got were " pain and anger " votes from some delegates just to tell some appointees chanting for Bawumia that, they don't have any control or respect in their constituencies and regions. Bawumia was not the target, they rather used a cane meant for some appointees on Bawumia. Bawumia should hit the ground running by moving to the regions to meet with the party supporters, give them space to point out their frustrations, from this he will know how unpopular some regional ministers, sector ministers , MMDCEs and MP's are. If he fails to do this, bet me 2024 will be a wild goose chase because fear people who are quiet, you never can tell what's in their mind. Nobody will take placards to demonstrate against any appointee. The strategy now is to ensure that the party falls with them by refusing to vote or voting against your own party. You will only get to know people's intentions when counting of ballots starts at the end of polls. ( Ask , John Mahama/NDC, , he knows what am saying because he has tasted some before) . This can be inimical to the fortunes of the NPP in 2024. Atik is right. The NPP brand for now is tainted . It requires immediate rebranding. Bawumia is good and humble , it's just that some few people who think NPP is their family property come have made a very vibrant and colourful NPP look unattractive. Personal interest instead of the collective interest in now the order of the day with appointees competing as to who can grab more without even looking back to see if the master is coming. We are watching
This Atik man behaves as if he knows everything. He speaks carelessly without any logical reasoning. He will continue to hang around the system without any meaningful contribution except Radio commentaries. He seems to be a jack of all trades but master of none. Too known commentator
