A catwalk display featuring models in his evocative designs is being planned as part of activities to mark the funeral ceremonies for Ghanaian fashion icon, Kofi Sasraku Ansah, on Friday May 30.

In fulfillment of his wishes, a family spokesperson has revealed, guests attending the funeral are expected to come in clothes that depict “tradition and fashion” as a tribute to the man who helped change the face of fashion in Ghana.

Kofi, who was the principal at high fashion house, ArtDress, had on several occasions asked that he is not mourned when he dies, but rather celebrated.

"We want a ceremony that will reflect the man that he was, and also to celebrate his legacy. So, we are not wearing mourning clothes for the event, no black, no white, no red. Everybody can come in any attire that depict tradition and fashion," says his elder brother, film maker Mr Kwaw Ansah.

The four-hour ceremony to be held at the forecourt of State House on Friday from 8am, will see Kofi's body lie in state for public viewing, before a short interdenominational service is performed.

Muted musical performances featuring his childhood friend from Asemansidu in Sekondi, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Kojo Antwi, the Tagoe Sisters, Cindy Thompson and Akosua Agyepong are on the cards as further tribute to the 62 year old designer.

Final rites, thereafter, will be a private affair, only to be attended by close family.
