Legendary filmmaker Kwaw Paintsil Ansah has produced yet another thought provoking movie about false prophets titled "Praising The Lord Plus One".
A story that unearths the horrendous tricks and hypocrisy of charlatan preachers who seem to be increasing at a rapid rate in our society, Praising the Lord Plus One would definitely ruffle a lot of feathers. Kwaw Ansah probes us to a search deeper into what praising and worshiping God really means. Is it about using the Lords name in vain to prey on the vulnerability of people or is it about Conscience?
Prophet Apostle Gabriel (played by Ekow Smith Asante) seems to think its the former and makes a lucrative business out of selling God and miracles to unsuspecting vulnerable families in search of Gods intervention.
Prophet Apostle Gabriel seems to have all the God-given prescriptions and proceeds to ignore his conscience and live a life of sin using God as a front. He sets out to destroy families and swindle money under the cloak of a holy man of God. Would he stopped? Will his devoted followers break the blinkers from their eyes?
The Cast.....
This film has a spectacular cast: Ekow Smith Asante, Albert Jackson-Davis, Ama K. Abebrese, Adjetey Anang, Anima Misa Amoah, Eddie Nartey, Nii Addokwei Moffatt, Vivienne Achor, Prof. Martin Owusu, Mary Yirenkyi, with a cameo appearance by Cindy Thompson.
Kwaw Ansah says of his vision for the films controversial theme, I believe we should not take Gods word as business. God is the spirit. You can deceive the people all the time but you cant deceive God. Do not pry on peoples ignorance and needs to create psychological problems for people.
Deceiving people to believe in things that do not exist is wrong. People are becoming more and more illiterate. Everything, the least challenge in a mans life, is attributed to Satan now. Can we develop with this mentality? We have to address it. I think government must find a way of protecting the vulnerable, but not look at the situation for political gain.
Praising the Lord plus One is to be premiered on 15th September 2013 at the National Theatre, at 4pm and 7pm. Rates go for GHC 25 for singles and GHc 40 for adults.
