For the first time in his life, the first Ex-President of Ghana’s fourth Republic, Jerry John Rawlings, has given his artless words to attend the premier of the much-awaiting movie, ‘The Masked,’ from the stables of Hau of Kadewe.

This happens to be his J. J. Rawlings first time of attending a movie premier since Ghanaian film makers intensified the movie premiering vogue in our movie industry some few years now. The movie which is set to be premiered on 29th November, 2013 at the Silverbird Cinemas at 6:30pm, is themed on the deadly disease, HIV/AIDS and its effects on Africa.

Nkuli - The Masked is one of the successful Ghanaian movies to treat the issues of HIV/Aids as its theme. Unconfirmed reports say the Ghana AIDS Commission is one of the sponsors of the film. Aside the former President, there are other lined- up celebrities who have confirmed their coming to the premier.

In a chat with Kofi Adams, Spokesperson for the former President, J.J Rawlings, he revealed to GhanaState.Com (Mustapha A Inusah) that, the former President’s love for the creative art is very high and deep seated.

‘His Excellency has been speaking on the breakdown of societal values, culture and that, the extended family spirit which we cherish, is being lost in our society but its essence, has been demonstrated in the movie; which is the main reason why he feels proud to identify with the movie and the premier’ He Said

He added that, H.E. Flt. Dr J.J Rawlings in previous years has shown lots of interest in the art by attending lots of musical programs and since movie making is part of the art, he sees it as a great honour to be the Special Guest for the event.

The movie was directed by Phil Efe Bernard for Hau of Kadewe Films, producers of the hilarious ‘Wanna Be’ movie which starred movie stalwarts like Nana Akua Addo and James Gardner, Prince David Osei, Bismark Odoi, and the likes.

Nkuli - The Masked tells the story of a young Nkuli (played by Nana Akua Addo) and her two siblings, Kwame (played by James Gardner) and Gye Nyame (played by Lisa Asor Awuku), who had to face the harsh realities of life after the untimely death of their parents.

They found themselves in the care of a wicked aunt (played by Pauline Oduro) who ushered Nkuli into prostitution; as a means of generating income for the family’s upkeep. Nkuli got infected with the HIV virus and the rest of the story is what movie fans should anticipate in the next few days ahead.
