Yes, gradually I feel that my voice and that of many other Africans who are not happy that winners of the International categories of the BET Awards are not presented on stage during the live American broadcast, is being heard.
After lambasting BET last year for what I described as BET Snubs Africa, a director from BET International assured me that there was a lot of challenges regarding our category but efforts were being made for the integration and recognition I sought for.
This year, although the award for Africa and UK acts were not presented on stage, it was per-recorded on stage unlike in previous years when it was presented to winners in a room, backstage. The taping was done hours ahead of the main ceremony, thus the reason why we were able to publish Ice Prince as the winner well ahead of time.
We have to start from somewhere, and I strongly believe that in the very near future our African stars will be picking their award live on stage, and even perform at the BET Awards also.
