Ovation International Magazine hosted its popular �Ovation Carol & Awards� in Accra for the first time since its inception and it will surely be remembered by patrons who were thrilled to a night of music, fashion and comedy.
The event, which was the 6th Edition of the special Christmas charity ball, featured performances by the wonderful Winneba Youth Choir, Nigeria's premier rock band, Threadstone, Edem, Afriyie, Sonnie Badu, M.I, Ice Prince, Burna Boy, Becca and Efya.
Grammy Award winning writer, producer and musician, Wyclef Jean made a surprise appearance on the night, performing several of his hit songs back to back. There was also a performance by US-based Nigerian Opera singer, Abiodun Koya and a runway presentation by Nigerian fashion designer, Mai Atafo.
The event, like the previous editions, provides a platform for spreading the message of hope among Africans, donating to a charitable cause, and celebrating the lives of two of Africa�s greats: late Professor Kofi Awoonor and Nelson Mandela.
The CEO of Ovation International Magazine, Chief Dele Momodu described the late professor as a true son of Africa, adding that he read several books from the literary icon.
Afetsi Awoonor, son of Professor Awoonor received an Ovation Red Carol Award on behalf of the family and a cheque of GHc10,000 was also presented to endow the fund for Kofi Awooner Poetry Competition organized by the School of performing arts, University of Ghana, Legon.
The presentation was made by former President of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings. To remember his contributions to the arts in Africa, there was a dance performance by the Noyam Dance Company and a poetry performance by Chief Munin.
