Veteran Ghanaian actresses Mercy Asiedu has bemoaned the rate at which ‘Kumawood’ movies are laced with insults.
Ms Asiedu says she sometimes feels very ashamed when watching local movies with children at home because of the insults.
“What’s bringing the Kumawood movies down is the insults – it is too much, and this is putting many people off” she told Adom Entertainment Hall host, Mike’2′ last Saturday.
She lays the blame at the doorstep of movie directors, insisting they ultimately decide what goes into a movie before it is released onto the market.
“If I Mercy Asiedu is acting in a movie and insulting here and there, it is the choice of the director and not me – he has directed me to use some filthy words”, she maintained.
She warned that local movies were losing out to foreign ones because of the unsavory language, and challenged all stakeholders to help put a halt to the slide in viewership.
