Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has described late Daasebre Gyamenah as a brilliant mid-tempo highlife musician.

The award-winning artiste died on Friday July 29 at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra of an undisclosed illness he battled for a long time.

Former Manager of the musician, Mark Okraku Mantey, whose Slip Music label played a crucial role in Gyamenah’s career had earlier confirmed the news of his death to Kasapa 102.5 FM. He spoke to Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Friday.

Born Daasebre Kojo Gyamenah, he became popular after releasing his debut hit ‘Kokooko’ in 1999 which featured former hiplife musician now turned Pastor Lord Kenya.

Kokooko for many was the first major mainstream fusion of hiplife and highlife in Ghana.

In a tweet to mourn his death, Mr Amissah said: “Daasebre Gyamenah was renowned for his brilliant mid-tempo highlife compositions. My thoughts are with his family and friends. RIP Daasebrɛ.”
