Father side of the late highlife musician Daasebre Gyamenah has planned of organising a funeral for their relative.
Uncle of the musician, Mr. Owusu Boakye speaking to zionfeix.net Monday morning disclosed that the paternal family together with the late musician’s fanclub have planned to have the funeral on April 1 at Omanhene’s forecourt in Koforidua.
Detailing other activities planned for the funeral ceremony in Koforidua, he announced that there will wake-keeping on March 31 and the funeral will follow the next two days, 1st and 2nd April.
“The mother side sued us so we allowed them to bury him and this is the time for us to have ours together with the widow in Koforidua. We are doing it together with his fanclub so the wake keeping will be on March 31. 1st and 2nd will be the funeral at Omanhene’s forecourt in Koforidua.,” he told Zionfelix.net
Mr. Owusu Boakye continued that the funeral expected to happen on April 1 will be held without a burial service because the maternal side entombed his body. When Zionfelix.net asked if they will invite mother side of the “Kokooko” singer for the funeral, he replied, “We don’t have any funeral plans with them again so they are not part of this one.”
Maternal family had three-day funeral rites for the deceased from Friday, November 25 2016 but members of father’s side were missing during the three-day event.
Daasebre reportedly succumbed to a heart attack at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra on Friday, July 29, 2016.
His death was surrounded by controversy due to the fact that he was also a Muslim with the name Abubakar Siddiq. Shortly after his death, his Muslim family wanted to bury him on that same day. Following deliberations between his Christian and Muslim families, an agreement was reached for burial on a different date.
Daasebre Dwamena’s maternal side in Anomabo however, succeeded in placing an injunction on the funeral following the reluctance from his father’s side in Koforidua to release the body to his mother’s side for burial.

Even if he is a paramount chief i think okyehene is higher that that juaben chief so i dont see what he /she is saying as an offence of knowing koforidua tradition, is just like the mampong hene, kenyasi hene, ejisu hene , offinso hene are all big chiefs but yet otumfuor is higher than them, so stop the looking face tradition u are trying to talk of as if someone is attacking koforidua chiefs, how many schools in Ghana learn koforidua tradition?
Please Koforidua matter has nothing g yo do with Okyenhene. Kodoridua is autonomous state and the name is New Juaben and the Chief is a paramount Chief he doesn't serve any Chief in the Eastern region but they are under Asante Juaben in the Ashanti region get that and don't distort. Eastern region has so many ethnic groups mostly from the Akan tribe, learn history oooooooooooooo ton and when our senior citizens try to teach you Ghana's history kids born during Rawlings AFRC and P/NDC accuse them of distorting events that happened between 1947-66 Eeeeiii Ghanafuo and know it all will kill us.
Then u should rather go and drink from the guttar or commit suicide if that is what u want cos u cant false someone to accept ur comment and even if the dad was alive stil the mother side would have won so they can go and take the corpse back to koforidua and lay it in state again no one cares cos if they had prolong to okyehenes residence they would stil have lost it. if u like too use the body for kalomo soup and chew wai cos u cant false me to side with u by false eeeei
What is your problem? The fathers are saying they owe it a duty to send their son home to the ancestors this way so you can write to high court to stop them if you think you have issues with that. The days where family will come ones you are rich and neglects when poor are gone. The father side saw it wise not to prolong this matter that's why they left it to the so called mother side. Besides a father is supposed to bury his son if he was alive but Daasebre's father died long ago that is why this litigation pull from the mother side. Proper Daasebre Funeral is coming on April 1, 2017 at Koforidua; go burn the sea if you don't agree.
Then u dont come from any akan family cos aka's inherit from their mother side traditionally unless ur mum is akan and ur dad a muslim cos muslims inherit from their father side just like the Ga's so madam u are not akan or better still ask ur grandparents about tradition and stop confusing urself. Aside daasebre always being with his dad side traditionally it prooved that he is from the motherside and that is why the court gave in to them no matter what the issue was about.
Your statement that ALL Akans come from their mother side is not entirely correct. You should have said most Akans come from their mother side. There are a few exceptions. I happen to come from 2 different Akan parents one with maternal inheritance and the other paternal so it has always been difficult for me to determine where I come from. I always choose my father side because that is where I stayed most of my life.
The maternal family buried him without the appearance of the wife, children even his colleagues so they have to do it again at the right place with the right family
Whether he never mentioned of her maternal family before or not he is an akan and akan's are from their maternal hometown and that was y the court gave in to them cos traditionally that is where he comes from and is cos of the same money that the paternal side are also insisting on having another funeral rites with wake keeping too, the man is dead so no need for this again cos it wont wake him up
I'm sure the late Daasebre Gyamenah would have wished for Koforidua to be his resting home. Did you ever hear or see Daasebre ever associating or making referenced to the mother side when he was alive? This is a guy who was brought up, lived, build, marry, did everything in Koforidua. Now the mother side suddenly realised that he's theirs after the death all because they think they could make money from the funeral rites. It would be an indictment on Daasebre's legacy for the Paternal family not to do any funeral rites for him.
The maternal family buried him and had the funeral so what is behind this parternal having another funeral tooo aaaba let the guy rest in peace wai cos no matter what is behind this funeral rites again wont wake him up
