Ghanaian musician Eugene Ashie known in showbiz as Wisa Greid has pleaded with an Accra Circuit Court to give him more time to raise GHS8, 400 being the convicted fine slapped at him by the court for gross indecency.
Lawyer for Wisa, Jerry Avenogbor pleaded with the court to accept GHS5,000 as immediate part payment with a promise to clear the balance in a week.
This was after the court convicted Wisa to the fine or in default serve two years in jail.
Accra FM’s Ama Brako reported on Monday, 30 April that trial judge, Justice Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, said Wisa did not show any remorse for his offence but she nonetheless did not impose custodial sentence on him.
The judge said from the video evidence viewed in court, it was manifest that Wisa displayed his penis to the general public with visible pubic hair. She said the charge of gross indecent exposure would serve as a deterrent to other artistes.
For his inability to immediately pay the fine, he was handcuffed and whisked away by three armed policemen.
Background
Wisa was dragged to court after he flashed his manhood on live stage during Citi FM’s Decemba2Rememba concert in 2015. A bench warrant was issued for his arrest in May this year after failing to appear in court for the trial. His lawyer has always argued that his client may have flashed an artificial male appendage rather than his real organ.

If wayome is walking freely without been handcuff then why this poor musician. The President must intervene on behalf of his little boy. I learnt the President advise him not to do that again when he was in opposition.
WHY DIDN'T THEY JAIL THAT MAAD MAN. LOOK AT FACE AND HAIR, HE IS JUST LIKE A MAADMAN !!
always taking our attention.
Very wierd gh police....why do u treat him like arm robber? Opuni n woyome stole gh money but they wasn't treated that way....wise up gh police
Over-hyped and semi-literate musicians. He needs to be locked up to teach him some senses. He shouldn't have been fined
Wisa may have done something wrong - misdemeanour but in the greater scheme of things handcuffing him and taking him to the police station to lock him up whilst pick pockets, armed robbers and the like are walking free cannot be right. Also girls go naked everyday and not an eyelid is flicked. The proportionality of the issue does not warrant the treated meted to him and the resources outlayed.
Xylophone has already send GHC 10,000 TO A journalist to pay for WISA.
The law in Ghana only works when it catches the poor and needy. Politicians, the rich and the higher up in the society get a pass. Are you telling me that we have wasted a whole 2 years or so on this simple case of misdemeanor? Really? what type of nonsensical system is this? Why don't you simply let him do community service such as cleaning the gutters in Legon for 3 months? And that NDC guy in BA (Collins Dauda's brother) who brutalized citizens and the police was never arrested. The Delta force people who threatened a judge and set suspects free were given lower fines than Wisa? If Bill Cosby was in Ghana the law would have left him off the hook like KKD. Our politicians can speak all the beautiful english but the fact is that Ghana is sick and the poor and needy live like orphans in our own country. God help us!
@kaka, with or without your vote the sun will forever rise from the east and set at the west and Ghana will move on. @Kofi ...much needed space for who? is it not for such good for nothing people? Or do you want to occupy there with your family? The young of today must think.
