Ghana’s Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mrs Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, has revealed that her ministry will engage Ghanaian reggae dancehall artistes Livingstone Etse Satekla, known in showbiz as Stonebwoy; and his archrival Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr.
Mrs Oteng-Gyasi revealed that her ministry will engage Ghanaian reggae dancehall Stonebwoy; and his archival Shatta Wale, to end the feud between them to prevent a deadly escalation.
“We are going to engage them together with MUSIGA to ensure that we resolve whatever underlying issue that is there so that we don’t have an escalation going forward into the future,” Mrs Oteng-Gyasi told Benjamin Akakpo on ClassFM’s 91.3FM on Monday, 20 May 2019.
Her comments were in reaction to the gun-related incident that took place at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) held on Saturday, 18 May 2019.
The 20th edition of the VGMAs nearly turned bloody when fans of Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale engaged in near-fisticuffs over an award.
The confusion happened when Stonebwoy was announced as the Reggae Dancehall Artiste of the Year.
Shatta Wale and his fans approached the podium to ostensibly congratulate Stonebwoy, but events turned chaotic resulting in a lot of pushing and shoving – a situation that prompted Stonebwoy to pull out his pistol.
The security officers at the event pepper-sprayed the stage in an attempt to prevent a full-blown fight.
“On the part of the ministry and the organisers, on hindsight, we should have engaged the two artistes prior to the event having witnessed what was going on in social media,” the minister said in her interview with Benjamin Akakpo.
She subsequently called on the fans of the two musicians to stop the social media war as that fuels the rivalry between the two artistes.

LIKE SERIOUSLY? HAS THE NPP GOVERNMENT MET ITS OWN OBLIGATIONS TO GHANAIANS AND SO HAVE NOTHING LEFT TO DO THAN TO HANDLING CRIMINAL ISSUES? WHAT WAS NANA ADDO'S PERFORMANCE AS ATTORNEY GENERAL OF GHANA DURING KUFFUOR'S TIME THAT THE GOVERNMENT WANTS TO TAKE UP SCHEDULES MEANT FOR THE COURTS AND JUDGES. THESE ARE THE HALL MARKS OF A COMPLETE CLUELESS GOVERNMENT THAT THINK THEY MUST JUST GET THEMSELVES INVOLVE IN AY OTHER MATTER THAN THEIR MANDATE TO GHANAIANS. NANA AND BAWUMILIAR, PLEASE GO FOR GOVERNANCE TUTORIALS FROM PAUL KAGAME IN RWANDA THEN COME BACK TO CONTINUE. GHANAIANS WILL HAVE PATIENCE FOR YOU GO AND COME FOR YOU SEAT. OK?
Come on Madam, do not pamper these jokers. You must find something better to do than to indulge these people.
Stop this ***barred word*** of inviting them. Treat them like criminals. Why does the government want to meet them? Do you ever meet suspects to discuss why they commit an offence?
What at all is NPP government doing? Why do you meddle in ***barred word*** issues? Today asamoah gyan tommoro shata nd stone. This government has lost focus
jUST ***barred word*** AND ALLOW THE LAW TO TAKE ITS COURSE. bUSY BODY MINISTER
So the government has nothing to do? What is this government intervention thing! If the two of them don't want to behave themselves and the law catches up with them should be hidden in jail; it is as simple as that.
There is no need for Government to intervene in this case. The Police must be allowed to do their work. We have had astute musicians in Ghana and they have worked in harmony the ET Mensah, King Bruce, Jeery Hansen, Nana Kwame Ampadu and many more saw to the growth of the music industry in Ghana. What at all have these two 'Shata Wale and 'Stoneboy' done to uplift the image of the industry. These are just empty barrels getting publicity because PR gimmicks. THE LAW MUST TAKE ITS COURSE. GOVERNMENT INTERFERENCE IS NOT NEEDED OR REQUIRED.
