Ghana made it into the Quarter Finals (TOP 25), as South Africa’s Rolene Strauss won the coveted title of Miss World 2014, at an event held in London on Sunday.

Nadia Ntanu, the country’s representative at this year’s finals, gave a good account of herself by making it into the TOP 25, out of a list of 122.

But in the end, it was South Africa, who gave Africa her second biggest win in 13 years, after Darego Agbani in 2001.

A fourth year medical student at the University of Free State, South Africa, she was also expected to represent her country at the 63rd Miss Universe pageant in Miami, Florida, in January 2015, but the organizers say her place will now be taken by Runner Up, Miss South Africa 2014, Zipozakhe Zokufa.

The event, screened to a global television viewing audience of some 1 billion people, was held at London’s EXcel.

This year’s Miss World, the 64th edition, had some of the most beautiful women from around the world compete over series of pre-event, Fast Track competitions.

Overshadowed by the murder of Miss Honduras, 19-year-old Maria Jose Alvarado, who was shot dead with her sister in their homeland last month on the day she was due to travel to London for the event, it went on in manner that paid fitting tribute to Alvarado.

Hungary and the United States came second and third respectively. Strauss automatically becomes the new Miss World Africa, taking over from Ghana’s Naa Okailey Shooter.
