Ace radio presenter and host of JOY FM’s Cosmopolitan Mix and Lunch Time Rhythms, Doreen Andoh, has been honoured.

A female capacity building organisation, Leading Ladies Network, conferred the title of Queen of the Airwaves on Doreen for inspiring many to great heights and being one of the most prominent females in the radio industry.

The award was significant especially coming on International Women’s Day, a day to celebrate female achievements and drum home the contributions of women to development around the world.Amid sobs of joy, Doreen received a citation and a pleasantly-adorned cake from Novotel as well as a hand-woven rafia bag, from three members of the Leading Ladies' Network.

“For 15 years, you have soothed us with your unique voice – showing your passion and dedication by playing the tunes that make the drudgery of our days a little easier. As one of the first female voices on the airwaves, your success has served as an inspiration to others. And on your shoulders, others today stand.

Today, the world celebrates International Women’s Day, and we choose to honour you Doreen Andoh – Queen of the Airwaves. May you keep rising and shining,” the citation read. The excitement of the first rate radio broadcaster peaked after the reading of the citation, prompting a music break.Expressing appreciation, Doreen said she does what she does just for the love of it.

“I do this because I love it and I am touched by the fact that you appreciate it. I’m truly grateful, I didn’t know how else to express myself but I haven’t come to a situation where I can’t find words but today I still can’t find the words…I’m just totally overwhelmed,” she said with rivulets of tears running down her cheaks.

President of the Leading Ladies Network, Yawa Hansen-Quao, said the organisation decided on choosing Doreen for the award because her work has inspired millions in Ghana. The organisation, which provides mentoring and support for professional women and women at the tertiary level, regularly holds roundtable meetings to share ideas for growth, Mrs Hansen-Quao said.
