The streets of Ghana’s oil hub came to a standstill last weekend as Y97.9FM together with some of Ghana’s finest and most sought-after artistes broke all odds to bring undiluted entertainment to the doorstep of the people of Sekondi-Takoradi.

The Oil city residents for the first time had a feel of the ‘Y Experience’ in a uniquely different way as they witnessed the birth of another brand of Y FM in the Takoradi Metropolis and its environs in a musical concert dubbed the ‘The Yearn For More Jam’ which could best be described as an arrival jam.

The musical jam, held at the Jubilee park in Takoradi, brought together most of Ghana’s finest and most sought after artistes including Atumpan, D-Crime, Tiffany, Raquel, and other young talented artistes from the Takoradi Metropolis who rocked the stage with their great and sizzling performances that could well define a new standard for stage performances in the metropolis.

Station Manager of YFM, Nana Kwame Osei Sarpong explained that ‘this jam is to express our gratitude to the people of Takoradi for their warm reception. We just did two months test transmission in this city and the reception we have received so far is just overwhelming. This is more of a ‘thank you Takoradi’ jam and we want to say to all our fans that we are definitely here to stay for the next two thousand years. We will deliver on our brand promise and we will take radio and entertainment lifestyle here in Takoradi to a different level: this promise we will never break’.

The event was also used to celebrate talented local artistes from the Takoradi metropolis. Prior to the jam, a corporate launch was officially held at the Champs Sports Bar to officially unveil the new station and the logo that comes with the vibrant lifestyle.

In his speech to officially launch the station, Station Manager of Y FM Nana Kwame Osei Sarpong who also doubles as the Presenter of Dryve of Your Lyfe, said ‘Y 97.9FM is poised to delivering on its brand promise of going the extra mile to bring unmatched quality entertainment to our listeners across the country and worldwide. We are committed to raising the standards of entertainment here in the Oil city and they can count on us for that entertainment pleasure they have been waiting and yearning for’.

He added that Y97.9FM will be tapping into the programmes of the mother station in Accra so listeners will get to enjoy what has been hugely successful in Accra right here in the Oil city. He also noted that advertisers will now have real value for their money and called on them to come on board the Y train and have a feel of what it means to eat your cake and still have it.

Touching on why the station decided to extend its wings to the Oil city, Y FM’s Station Manager noted that ‘we want to reach out to our deserving fans outside Accra and bring a whole new radio and entertainment experience to the residents of the twin city and its environs through quality content and programming. When I talk of a new radio and entertainment experience, I am essentially referring to the ‘Y experience’; an experience that is soothing, refreshing and will keep you yearning for more.

Y FM is hugely popular in Accra, and we feel that this popularity should re-assure the people of Takoradi that we are committed to quality and will surely deliver once fully integrated. This is our solemn pledge to the people of the twin-city.
