This year’s music talent hunt, MTN Project Fame, was set in motion when auditions were held in both Accra and Kumasi last week to select potential candidates for the show.

The selected candidates are expected to be in Lagos next month to compete with competitors from other West African countries. The final contestants will be selected for the MTN PF Academy house.

In its seventh year, the MTN Project Fame has provided the platform to unearth and groom raw talents into professional standards.
It has proved to be one of the most successful music talent discovery show in West Africa, bringing to the world of music, great artistes like Iyanya and Chidinma from Nigeria and Ghana’s Kesse.

Since its inception, the MTN Project Fame has been a close race between Ghana and Nigeria. In 2008 when the first show was held, Nii Ankara, aka Nii Soul, placed second in a closely contested game to Iyanya, who emerged the show’s first winner.

Two years later in 2010, the show provided another rivalry between Ghana and Nigeria when Nigeria’s Chidinma beat Kesse to win the title.
Talents unearthed on the show have gone on to take on the world of music by storm and become household names, winning local, regional and intercontinental awards.

Notable among them are Iyanya, who has won many awards, including Artiste of the Year at the Headies, Nigeria’s Biggest Entertainment event in 2013.

Chidinma won a KORA Award in 2012 and Kesse won the Best Male Vocalist Award at the 2011 Ghana Music Awards. The contestants will battle it out for 10 weeks with eviction at the end of each week’s show. This year’s winner will take home a prize package of a 2014 SUV, a recording contract and a $25, 000 cash prize.
