Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, has told the Presidential Commission of Inquiry investigating the participation of the Black Stars in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brasil that, the Black Stars demanded $120,000 appearance fee and not $100,000 dollars.

Afriyie-Ankrah, who appeared before the commission said, the players made a request of $120,000 and this was proposed in the budget presented to the Ministry by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

He added that, the government later sent two officials Stephen Adu Asare and Mustapha Ahmed to Montenegro to negotiate with the players on the appearance fee.

According to the minister, the ministry and GFA later agreed on $100,000 before sending the request to cabinet for approval.

The former Minister of Youth and Sports, said the decision to pay $82,500 as appearance fee was approved by cabinet adding that, it represented 10% on the previous appearance fee paid to the players.

He added that, cabinet arrived on the figure based on what was paid during the 2010 World Cup.

It would be recalled that, the Black Stars received $75,000 as appearance fee during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The issue of appearance fee has been a major subject of discussion since the commission commenced work about two weeks ago.
