Ghana FA vice president Fred Crentsil says not winning the bid to host Afcon 2017 is "unfortunate."
Gabon beat Ghana and Algeria in an announcement made on Wednesday in Cairo. Caf did not give details of the voting pattern.
“We knew Gabon were a direct opponent and we were looking to beat them but it's unfortunate that we lost out,” the administrator said.
Although he was a member of Ghana’s bid committee, Crentsil has had to deal with opinions from some quarters suggesting that the absence of FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi was a factor why Ghana failed.
“I do not think the absence of Mr Nyantakyi in the bid committee played a role in us losing the bid, however I still have to wait for my colleagues who went to Cairo to return,” Crentsil told Accra-based Citi FM.
Gabon last co-hosted the competition in 2012.
