Solomon Baba Akumba, a level 300 student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), was the toast of fans last Saturday, at the Lizzy sports complex when he beat other very strong opponents to win the biggest prize of GHČĽ5,000.00, in the finals of the 2018/19 Malta Guinness Maltavator Challenge, Season Two.
He and other five finalists, who are to represent Ghana in South Africa got a special Garmin Sports watches, plus cartons of Malta Guinness.
Samuel Osei Mensah was second and received GHČĽ3,000.00, whilst Emmanuel Gyeta placed third to take home GHČĽ2,000.00.
Daniel Abotsi took the fourth position and went home with GHČĽ1,000.00, with Richard Kuevorve placing fifth and also took home GHČĽ1,000.00.
Precious Appiah, who placed sixth and got GHČĽ1,000.00 was the only female in the finals.
The winners, were presented with their prizes by top officials of Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited, who expressed delight and satisfaction at the interest of the
programme, which was graced by rising star Medikal.
Forty competitors recruited from Accra, Takoradi, Kumasi and Tamale took part in the showdown at the national finale of the Malta Guinness Maltavator
Challenge Season Two.
The six, who would represent Ghana at the Pan African Championship in South Africa in February this year were also happy.
Ghana’s six representatives would compete against other competitors from Nigeria, Cameroun, Kenya, Ethiopia and Cote D’Ivoire for the ultimate $20,000 prize
money.
Last year, two Ghanaians picked up the 1st and 2ND runner-up positions in the Pan-African Championship, which was won by Ethiopia’s Keariam Abera.
Mr. Roland Ofori, Brands Manager of Malta Guinness, expressed his joy about the passion and competitiveness of the competition which many Ghanaians across
all 10 regions have come to love. He was sure the Ghanaians will shine in South Africa.
