Manchester United are preparing a summer bid for Valencia striker David Villa, according to a report from The Daily Mirror.
United gaffer Sir Alex Ferguson apparently sent his chief European scout - his brother Martin - for another look at the forward over the weekend.
The Red Devils are believed to have found Valencia's asking price of 45 million too steep when they approached the La Liga side last summer, but Dimitar Berbatov's continuing underwhelming form reportedly means that Ferguson is more willing to invest in a new world-class striker.
Funds are apparently in place at Old Trafford to move for the right players.
Villa could be tempted to move if Valencia do not reach next season's Champions League. He has indicated that he would be open to a move to England after previously seeming more in favour of a switch to one of Spain's giants.
